Cheap Reception Venues?

I just got engaged this week and am starting the planning process! Does anyone know of any cheap reception venues in the Montgomery / Bucks County Area? Or really anywhere around the Philly/Allentown area. We have a pretty small wedding budget being recent college grads/almost college grads! We're looking for something nicer than a firehall but not as expensive as a country club! Anyone know of anything inbetween? Also, the wedding will be in Febuary so outside is not really an option.

Thanks so much for any suggestions!

How many people?  What type of setting?  How much total is your budget, or how much per head do you want to spend?

    And congrats!

I've got a budget of around $6,500 so according to the knot that puts me at about $17 a head, and around $600 for the reception venue. That's not a lot...man weddings are expensive! Haha.   We would have around maybe 120 guests. Not more than that. Are far as a setting, i'm just looking for something that would look classy for the cheap price.

Are you looking for a full dinner or a appetizers or a cake and punch reception?

I'm up for anything really. I'd perfer to not have a sit-down fancy dinner, I'd rather have it buffet style.  My preference would probably be a dinner buffet, serving nothing too fancy to keep costs low

You're right, 6,500 isn't a lot. Are you set on February? Maybe it would make sense to wait for summer and do it in a family member or friend's backyard. Or maybe you could to put it off a year and save more money. You could also look into doing a just  hors d'oeuvres or just dessert reception. If you did that, you might be able to find a restaurant with space for you.

I am going to agree with the PP that talks about a backyard or resturant reception

You could try Brookside Manor in Feasterville. It's definitely more than $17 a head, but it includes full meal, cake, linens, centerpieces, DOC, and grat. Good luck!

Just to give you a heads up, buffets can run a little more money because they ahve to make extra food.  Sit down dinners they have a general number of each entree so it helps to keep the cost down.

That being said, I've gone to a reception that was just appetizers and I loved it.  Appetizers are my favorite thing ever.

Thanks for your input ladies! I'll check out the spaces your suggested. Definetly not looking to put it off, I'd rather skimp on the wedding than wait!! Just doing appetizers is a good idea as well.

We are having our reception at DiPinto's Catering in Philadelphia.  Their website is kinda outdated, but the owner, Tony, is really great to work with so far.  I know several other friends that have had their reception there and I've attended a reception there as well.  The food was fabulous, everything looked great and everyone had a great time.  Their prices are good too!  I know it's under $50/head including tax and gratuity for a buffet dinner, top and bottom shelf open bar, wedding cake and parents cake, linens, centerpieces, etc.

    Good Luck!

Bethlehem Masonic Temple I think would be in your budget. It's off of 378, near the Sayre Mansion. My friend had her ceremony and reception there a few years ago. The dinner is "family style" where they give each dinner the dishes to pass around.

Thanks for the ideas! I'll have to research them.  I'm visitng the Ballroom on High in Pottstown tomorrow evening. They just opened at the beginning of April (and were just added to The Knot reception seach) and the gentleman there quoted me $600 for a full day Saturday rental for around 120 people.  I'm excited to go check it out!

The barn at Mermaid Lake is very affordable.  We've had some company things there and the room is very nice.  You have to brng in your own liquor.  They'll work with you on food besides their picnic menus.  I think it could run around $30 pp.  The room rental is about $200.  It's worth calling and checking it out.

Just in case any one is interested....I'm now booked at The Meadows in Hellertown! Beautiful place with great facilities and I got a package deal that includes a buffet dinner, cake, bar tab up to 500 dollars, simple hors d'eourves, and a champagne toast for 100 people for only 2,500!! So, there is definetly no need to put off your wedding if you have a small budget I'd say. Just do some research!!! Getting married in Feb. helps too, we got an off season discount!

My mom just hosted our church's passover sedar at Michael's Restaurant in Morrisville, Pa.  My mom said the service was amazing and they had never done a Jewish Sedar before and we very attentive to each and every detail.  They were aiming to please from beginning to end.  Their prices are good too.  I kinda wish I had found this place so our guests wouldn't have travel so far to the reception.
