August 2012 Weddings

My dress came in....

... and I have my first fitting on Friday. I know I should bring undergarments (which I will be shopping for tomorrow morning), my shoes and I'm bringing my jewelry just to see what it all looks like together. What else should I expect, and what if I lose more weight- is the second fitting for alterations too? How does that work? Thanks in advance for any input.

Re: My dress came in....

  • My first fitting was to measure for all alterations and the second was just to make sure it was how I wanted. I didn't need any further alterations after that. I think if there was something you still needed changed they could do it after the second fitting. I got my dress altered a while ago and didn't expect to lose/gain any weight. If you think your weight might still change you could schedule the second fitting a week or so before the wedding, just in case.
  • I also brought my headpiece and veil to help with me figuring out how I'll want my hair trial. I would wear your shoes at home for a little bit if you can. You'll have them almost your whole fitting appointment and it they are brand new your feet could ache from standing still. Also DON"T lock your knees! I saw stars and got lightheaded for standing aboslutley straight while the alternations mananger worked on my hem (lots of layers) for almost an hour. I expect to lose some more weight between now and then but I think I've lost most of mine already.

  • I had my second fitting today. It was to see how the alterations looked and if there was anything else thtat needed to be done, there are a couple other things to alter very slightly (moving the inside part of the bustle up a little higher).

  • Aside from shoes, undergarments, jewelry and veil and/or hair piece(s), you need a camera!! I would love to see pics if you want to share! =) Another set of eyes is definitely helpful in determining what alterations  you want. I brought my mom so she could see how I was planning on having the dress bustled so she could start to figure out how to do it. Good luck!
