You know how the point of the knot is kind of to share about your wedding journey? This totally qualifies for that.
Ryan, as I type, is either taking a test that might determine our future or coming home from doing it. He said he'd finished up sometime around now (it's about 1:45 in the morning Valentine's night-- midday for him in India). He interviewed yesterday (Valentine's for him) for what sounds like a great job. It's with a company all of y'all would probably recognize and respect which is why I won't share it, but it'd be great for us.
Ryan's been unemployed since he left a job that really neither good for him or good for our future in August. The hard truth of it is, I'm bringing debt to our marriage. While this debt would seem inconsequential in employed America (cut out cable and cell phones and you'd pretty much have it covered) in India people could live on what my college debt adds up to each month. And since I can't work that first year legally, Ryan has to find a job that will not only be enough for him to live on... for me to live on... but also to pay my debts.
So until he's found this job, we can't get married.
We've been praying. He's gotten tons of offers (I'm thinking 6-10?) but not one has paid enough or been in an area we could live in. (There was one job that was far away from where we want to live and also not a safe place.) Of course, our prayer has been "God, please let the first job that offers the right amount be the job you intend. If it's not the right job, let them not offer enough, or delay their offer until after the right job comes along." So really, this isn't surprising.
I'm also unemployed. I was unemployed when Ryan left his job, and everyone thought he was crazy. But he did so carefully, and with prayer. Then just as everything started crashing down (last week of November) I found a seasonal job which ended the first week of January.
This week, I ran out of money from what I'd been able to put aside from that brief job.
And on Monday he heard from three jobs. Plus he had gotten a good lead last week.
The job he interviewed with today, they found him. He never applied. They said they were going to "freeze the position" but then found his resume and decided to look at him first. The test he's taking right now they give to determine starting salary. So if he tests well, he'll probably have a job. Tonight. If not, they'll offer to low and in keeping with our prayers he'll have to turn them down. But he'll pray about it first. I really think he could be happy at this job and want it for him, as well as for us.
He also got contacted by a job he may not enjoy but who are seriously considering him and will get back to him.
He's also dialoguing with a job at a large company several of his church members work at that's about five minutes from where he's working now. It sounds like a good job, so even if the one today doesn't work out, maybe that one will.
And like I said, he got a lead on a job last week from his pastor doing technical writing for a large news corportation.
So... lift him and us up in prayer? We know God's timing to be perfect. Ryan was pointing out this would be amazing time because he and his parents are financially strapped this month and I've run out of money from my seasonal job. I pointed out the more romantic notion that he interviewed on Valentine's Day and he'd be getting a job on my birthday week-- what a gift that'd be!
So please pray. Thank you.
