Greece Reviews

Hello!
My Husband and I just returned from our Greece honeymoon a few days ago and I wanted to put some reviews on here!

First I want to recommend Greece to anyone considering it.  There were no protests no hostility and it is something out of a movie!  Everyone was very helpful and welcoming there.

We used Hellenic Holidays and Petros Zissimos to book our trip and he was wonderful.  I only ever dealt with Petros the founder, he never pushed us off onto another agent.  He was super flexible and helpful as well.  We picked one of his packages and then had to add a night to it in a different city to bea able to take a certain flight and there were no problems!  We actually booked our own airfare because we used miles and that was no problem for Petros.  We also ended up gettin stuck in London for 2 days because of Hurricane Sandy and Petros called us and emailed us to see if we needed anything.  He even tried to reconcile with the airlines and make arrangements for us even though we had booked our own airfare and did not go through him.

Every time we travelled there was a car waiting, the driver was always on time and helpful.  Petros set up some day trips for us and they went off without a hitch and were fun and exactly what we were looking for.

I would recommend Hellenic Holidays and Greece in general to anyone considering!!

Re: Greece Reviews

  • Where in Greece did you go?  We went to Athens in 2011 and it was a dump.  I wouldn't recommend it to anyone.  Crete was okay.  I'd love to do a tour of the islands though, like Mikonos and Santorini.
  • We started in Athens and then went to Santorini.  Athens was rainy but def not a dirty city.   Santorini was perfect.  It was like living in a post card!  I liked Athens because we got to see the history, but Santorini was definitely the one I would recommend to someone who was looking to get away and relax and not do so much exploring per say.

  • The Greeks were by far the nicest people I have met in Europe (I've been to at least half the countries there).  I was so touched by them and have many examples of how they went the extra mile (or kilometer) for me without expecting anything.  And this was during my visit in May 2012 right in the middle of all the turmoil.

The history in Athens was incredible, but overall the city wasn't very nice.  I didn't have issues with smog or trash in the streets as friends of mine had in the past, but it was very rundown and not very pretty.

Since I was there mostly for business I only had enough free time to see some sights in the city and head out on a day trip to some nearby islands.  I LOVED visiting the islands.  You get a totally different feel for the country.  I highly recommend spending some time on the islands.

  • This thread makes me happy b/c I really really want to go to Greece but my fiance is worried about the safety. From what I am hearing, rioting is really only concentrated to a small area of Athens. I'm not particularly interested in Athens anyway so I feel like we would not be affected by any rioting or anything.

Anyone been to Rhodes? We were first looking @ Mykonos but I have heard it's just a big party place and nothing so special. What are some other places to go to besides Santorini and Crete and are there enough things to do to occupy you for a few days? (I get bored easily, lol).
