Ceremony Locations? [budget + short timeline]

My fiance proposed on the 4th of July and due to issues with school (and school-related finances) we're planning a small September 2012 wedding. Yeah, this September!

We don't have a specific date yet, but I need a ton of help finding a ceremony location. Right now we're looking at about 50 people, but it's not set in stone yet.

* While we are very religious we don't have a church we can get married in.
* Neither his parents nor mine live on land open enough and we don't know anyone with that kind of land either.
* We don't want to get married in a government building. :P

With such a short time to plan the wedding, I know most venues will already be booked. Do you have any ideas for where we could get married?

First, congrats on the engagement and welcome to TK.

If you're looking for the beginning of September, you might be able to find a park that has a nice open space or amphitheater type setting you could get married at.  The weather should still be really nice at the beginning of September.  I, personally, would start there.

  • What part of town are you in? there is the ampitheater at Centennial lakes, or lake harriet or peace gardens, and I would consider doing a sunday when there is a lot of availibility, that is what we are doing!

Thank you for the suggestions of parks! I don't know the area very well (my fiance is from the Cities), but I'll try to see what I can find!

Unfortunately religious beliefs strongly discourage us from Sunday weddings.

I'm roughly an hour north of the Cities, but right now we're thinking of trying to be close to Saint Paul because it's a more central location for his family.
  • Check out Black Bear Crossings in St. Paul on Lake Como. They have 4 different time slots, so chances are you'll be able to find one that hasn't been booked. It's a covered promenade but it's outside on the lake and is a beautiful spot for ceremonies, and they do receptions as well. The pic in my siggy is from our ceremony this past May. Website and reviews in my Bio :)
  • We got married at the Riedel House in Fridley, right on the Mississippi. It was fantastic and affordable.
  • My cousin just got married at Phelan Park. Very pretty.  The ampitheatre is right next to the pavillion.
  • Thank you for all your help, everyone!!  Thanks to your ideas we were able to secure a reservation/permit at a beautiful city park!
  • I got married at the Rosemount Steeple Center.  We had the wedding and reception in the location.  It is an old catholic church that the city of Rosemount rennovated.  The cost of the rental was very reasonable.  It was $490 for a 14 hour rental.  Another $100 for them to reset the room for the recetion and a $210 security fee because we served alcohol.  The two downsides of the location is 1. no air conditioning (may not be an issue for a september wedding) 2. only two bathroom stalls (one male, one female) - this may also not be an issue since you will have low numbers.  Here is the webiste: CLICK
