Honeymoon Registries?

I just read the craziest post where this one girl was asking for advice on a honeymoon registry and they literally ATTACKED her. Ok, so here goes nothing: opinions on honeymoon registries? I don't really want it, FI suggested it and I just want to know if anyone has had this or known someone who has done this.

Re: Honeymoon Registries?

  • I heard most of them take a % of the money people give, so I don't know if it's worth it because at the end of the day, you won't be getting the full amount.

In theory it sounds like a good idea to me, but then again I'm a broke grad student so if people can help me out, I'm all for it! I seriously don't understand why on some boards the ladies are just plain mean and disrespectful.

Honestly I don't see what the big deal is. A friend of mine did it, for her bridal shower I gave her "ship credit" and the wedding cash. They didn't need anything why make a registry when you've lived on your own and have the necessary living essentials. Not like I'm going to buy the 2000 couch lol The way I see it if you don't want purchase from honeymoon registry then don't give cash thats my two cents
  • I don't care either way, The last wedding I went to the couple only wanted cash, which I didn't like because it gives no options. The only issue I see is the service fees. But I guess you can look at it like sales tax in a way...

  • we actually didnt register ANYWHERE ... when people asked us or parents what we wanted as a gift ... we politely said $$ .... weve been living together for YEARS now ... how many blenders and toasters do we really need .... we just want the $ so we can actually buy the house to put all of the blenders and toasters in .... people were actually very understanding and wrote checks for all of our gifts ...... we also didnt have an engagement party ... or a bridal shower ... or bachelor/ette parties ....

I don't understand why people think this is "rude" or "offensive". It's 2012 people!
People are not getting married at 17, 18, 19 years old and moving in together for the first time anymore!

Us brides pretty much have the essentials we need for a household, many of us just don't have a house to put it in! I don't need to register for a blender, silverware, or plates-I need money for a house or a honeymoon.

I understand asking directly for money is considered tacky, and people want to purchase things more personal. Honey moon registeries are a great way to do that! Someone can buy us a massage on our cruise, or pay to upgrade our room, or pay for our first breakfast/dinner together as a married couple etc. Those kinds of things ARE personal and something we will always remember as it is on our Honeymoon.

So to all the naysayers, get with it! It's 2012, not 1912 lol Tongue Out
  • I completely agree!! I thought the same thing, and we were considering it. I'm always surprised how rude people can get over the internet. I'm glad SoFla board isn't as tacky.

  • I don't see an issue with it but I understand why people DO have a problem with it.

At the end of the day I think it's always best to do what's right for you and maybe not post about it on The Knot... ;)

  • I completely agree with some of the ladies on this topic. IMO I feel it is super tacky to request any particluar gift. If you already have all you need for your home. Then don't have a registry, and then leave it up to people having enough common sense and give money at that point.
Also, luckyinlove thank you for letting me know what year we were in. Wow!! Without you I would be completely clueless...................
