Body fat percentage visuals

I've had this bookmarked for a while. I'm obsessed with body fat percentage and I find the photos and descriptions pretty true-to-life. I use my actual body fat percentage, not my BMI. I'm at 25% (trying to get to about 22%) and it looks about right.

Re: Body fat percentage visuals

  • Awesome find, I can't wait to read through it all - thanks for sharing!

[QUOTE]I think those people are a bit leaner than their %, but I still like it. Thanks!

<div>Nope, very likely just dehydrated, worked out the same day as the shoot, photographed from the most flattering angles, bronzed and light-corrected. :-) (especially the first 3-4 of each group).</div>

[QUOTE]In Response to Re: Body fat percentage visuals : I guess that makes sense. I just know my BF% and can assure you I don't look like the lady in the pic. Maybe someday.

<div>Haha well I know there are a few mirrors in the house where my abs look quite impressive when in reality they're really not that impressive... light and angle makes a huge difference.</div>
  • I dunno, I'm with Lia on thinking they're leaner. At least in the higher BF% pictures. I am currently 32% BF and I think look closer to between the 35% and 40% picture, not between 30 and 35. I would be stoked though to look like that!

  • I think it's hard to very accurately tell unless the person in the picture is the same body type as you. I'm at 25% BF but the girl in the 25% photo has bigger boobs and narrower hips (and therefore likely a smaller butt) than me. The women in the 30 and 35% photos are very classically shaped and carry their fat well, but somebody with a different body shape might carry the same amount of fat differently. I think it would have been helpful to post 3-4 pictures of different individuals for each percentage.
  • I know what you're saying. I however do carry my fat very evenly, I am an hourglass shape (31 inch waist, 43 inch hips, 41 inch bust) and I still don't look like that, lol. But definitely posting more pictures of people at different heights and shapes would be a good thing as opposed to just one.

  • I think you pretty much have to be thinner and long-limbed to get your BF% that low. I'm an hourglass and have pretty muc given up trying to get to the low 20s because my body is happy as a clam at 25% and absolutely refuses to budge no matter what I do to it.
  • I'm very much an hourglass shape, with 15% body fat. SO it's possible.. but again we all have different body shapes. I don't look that lean, although I can get close in the abs section when I dehydrate myself (which I don't.. so they rarely look that way :P ) My abs stick out more anyway. But I do not have super lean and muscular arms *le sigh* that's my weak spot.

I think these are relatively accurate, but like unchaten said: dehydration, light, angle, tan.. It all makes a huge difference. I have a "bodybuilder" friend that you would never guess is one on a normal day, but when you see her on stage you're like "dayum" because of all the crap she does to prepare.
  • Well, my body just hates me, then. :-P
  • Out of curiosity, how are people measuring their bodyfat percentage? I have one of those scales that passes a current through your feet, but it is WILDLY inaccurate. If those pictures posted are more accurate, my scale is at least 9% off....

[QUOTE]I had mine measured at the gym. The trainer there uses the three point skin fold method. Basically they pinch your fat and measure it with calipers.

<div>Me, too. Last time, they measured it at 25.6%. If I do a BMI calculation online, it is 23%.</div>
