Trying to decide on an Island

Hi Girls,

HELP! I'm newly engaged and we are trying to decide which Island to run off to and elope to, of course on a budget. I've done some research and I just can't get Oahu out of my brain.

Is one Island cheaper than others to fily in and out of or do they all run about the same price.

Most major airlines fly in and out of Oahu, but during certain times of year, airlines will fly to most of the islands. It really depends on where you are flying out of! Coming from Vancouver, Canada the prices were very similar to most of the islands! it's also relatively cheap to get from one island to the next (around $80 pp/ one way) if you want to move around!

Out of Portland you may be able to get a flight straight to Maui or Oahu. From Alaska we have to fly to Oahu unless it's Christmas time or Spring Break - only during those times to they offer straight to Maui for us.

I agree with PPs -- Oahu tends to be the easiest & most affordable from most places in the world / US. It depends if all of your guests are coming from Portland, or if they'll be coming from all over the place. Alaska Air does fly Oahu and Maui nonstop from major West Coast cities, and if I recall properly, airfare is comparable.

As for accommodations, you can easily find a wide range across condos, hotels, and resorts on almost any island. Same with vendors. I think Oahu has slightly more to offer in way of options & sheer volume of accomodations, restaurants, and vendors, but really, Maui isn't far behind (and Maui is probably the more popular of the 2 amongst brides on this board).

And...the rest of us Hawaii brides will tell you...choosing Hawaii was the best decision we made :-)

I'm eloping to Oahu in 2 months. We can get direct flights from PA. Definately check out both islands to see what you are looking for. I knew I wanted to get married on Oahu, but my next trip will be to Maui!

I heard from a friend in Portland that direct flights to Maui are gone...on Hawaiian Airlines at least... But I say if Oahu is on your mind, go with it! It's a gut/heart feeling! Hehe

You can get direct flight to Maui on Alaska. The prices to Oahu and Maui are the same through Hawaiian. I love Hawaiian so much, I think it's worth the hopper. Plus, I just love Maui the most. Has so much to offer.

You can't go wrong with either but I preferred Maui over Oahu. It's not as busy & a bit more romantic.
