did you write your own vows?

and if you did, how long are they?  Mine are ten sentences...is that normal? too long? too short?

Re: did you write your own vows?

  • I voted yes, because we're planning on writing our own vows. I've been working on them in my head a little, and I think that sounds like a good length. How long does it take you to say them out loud? Most weddings I've been to the vows have been approximately a minute or less. :-)

I think as long as you said what you wanted to say, then as long as it's not like 5 minutes long, they should be perfect!
  • Hmm..yes and no? I did write them down, but we are putting them in letters to each other to be opened at a milestone or rocky times (wine & love letter box). We wont be saying them during the ceremony- I don't even think I'll be able to say much more than the mandatory 'I do' lol!
  • Yup, normal mine are 13 lines long.

  • I'll be writing mine, but haven't even started yet. FI did not like seeing that on the 'to do' list but it's important to me that we say a few words from the heart. I think 10 lines sounds like a perfect length!

  • I would have LOVED to write our own vows, but my fiance has trouble to even write messages on greeting cards. haha He isn't great at writing how he feels. He was like "I love you, but can we please just do traditional vows??"" lol

    100% the same here!
  • I voted no.  However, our officiant sent us each a questionnaire with things like "How did you know you were in love?" and "What do you love most about your partner?" and from there she writes a semi-custom ceremony.

  • We had thought about writing our own but decided to just write each other letters and give them to each other (without seeing each other) before the ceremony.  I would be way too emotional for me to get through and I'm adamant that I don't cry during the ceremony.  My nose turns all red and stays that way and I don't want to look like that in our pictures. But the length of yours sounds just fine!
