I need a show of hands

How many of you have been to a bridal shower that was 4 hours long?  Like, isn't that super long?

Now vent time... FSIL's shower is in two weeks (ughh it's almost over) and her shower is apparently 4 hours long... and my FMIL is insisting that it last that long.  So FMIL has planned extra games "just in case"... ummm?  If people want to leave, you can't lock them in the room!  When people leave, the shower is over, correct?  My god this family is wacky.  Rant over.

  • And the last shower I attended had one game.  I've never heard of more than two.  Why on earth would need more than that?  The last time I checked, adults can entertain themselves at parties- this isn't a single digit birthday party!  Ok, I'm being petty, but I'm annoyed.

  • Ohh boy. I bet you are counting down the days until this wedding is over! Does FI know how you feel about it all, or would be offended by how you feel about FSIL?

And 4 hours does seem long. I've only been to a handful of showers but can imagine people would be ready to head out after 2 hrs.

  •  I think 4 hours in crazy long, 2 games max for me!

</div><div>Oh he knows.  I'm afraid I'm not good at hiding it.  He pretty much agrees, although he probably wouldn't use the choice words I would use lol.  He knows his sister is a nut and told me he always knew she would be a brideszilla.  Apparently he was right.

It's really kind of funny that you mention this because I was just at a shower over the weekend that was scheduled for 12:30 to 2:30pm. The bride didn't start opening gifts until 3:15, so we ended up leaving a little after 4. I felt it was way too long for a shower. I'm sorry you are dealing with this, I hope things get better!

  • I like when showers are kept to 2 hours or under, but I've been to a few that are upwards of 3-4 hours with multiple games. A lot of times it depends on how many people are there, especially with how long opening gifts will take. Luckily, the longest one I was at that I remember was my SILs (her family is a little wacky too), but so many of my family and family friends were there that I could talk to them. If it where I only knew a couple people- yuck!

So yeah, it's super long, but unfortunately, not unheard of.

  • That seems pretty long to me too.  It does depend a lot on how punctual everyone is, and how many people/gifts there are.

P.S.....A friend of mine had a 5 hour engagement party at 3 in the afternoon.  There wasn't any type of entertainment, just some food and a radio.  At least there will be something to do at the shower, though I still think 4 hours is too long.

  • I have, but it was for my cousin and we were having an awesome time so it didn't feel like 4 hours lol.

  • Thanks, ladies.  I think it's just to feel like an eternity to me no matter how long it is : /

Just about 2 months until the whole shabang is over.  Pray for me lol

  • I don't think that 4 hours is long if you're having fun--and by fun, I mean mingling and talking with people.  I'm okay with a max of two games--but I think that shower games in general are stupid and I hope that I don't have to do anything more taxing than take a drink everytime that I say the groom's first name.
