October 2012 Weddings

Setbacks are so stressful....

I've been doing so well the last few weeks in getting some major checks out of the way and have been planning to take care of a few more in the next couple weeks, but have a setback looming that couple put a damper on a few things for a while.  My darn car decided to act up and it looks like i'm gonna have to take it into the shop next week to get fixed.   Crossing my fingers that it won't be to outrageous and I can still work on my Wedding checks.   My job is another town 19 miles away so riding a bike or walking is out of the question.Of course, I could wake up my FI bright and early at 5am everyday to take me to work and wait to get my car fixed, lol.  Anyone else been having unexpected expenses show up that put a damper on your wedding planning?

Re: Setbacks are so stressful....

  • Car repairs are so expensive! I always know when something's going to happen to mine because that week's paycheck will be better than anticipated. I've had quite a bit of unexpected expenses and setbacks come up in the last few months. It is so stressful to plan a wedding when your money is being spent before it even gets in your account, ha ha!

  • My car has behaved itself, thankfully, but right now I'm out of a job, so the majority of the wedding payments are coming from my school loans.  Normally, I do not request any extra stipend money, but I started requesting little chunks in February, so that we could do deposits and such down.  Now I'm taking whatever is left and giving thanks that we're mostly paid off.

    Setbacks are indeed STRESSFUL!

  • My laptop blue-screened the other day after attempting to start up twice.  I think it's lived out it's life (6 years, through most of undergrad and all of grad school).  I'm hoping I can take it apart and clean it out to keep it limping along, but I'm worried it's been overheating for a while and may have done permanent damage to the processor.  The money is there, I'd just rather put it towards paying off my student loans.
  • I'm right there with you!  We were in a car accident a few weeks ago and my car was totalled.  Buying a new car has been so incredibly stressful and I just wasn't planning on it (financially or emotionally) at this point!

Funny piece of the story is that when the cops showed up on the scene, they were talking to FI.  I was in the ambulance being observed.  I heard the cop tell FI to get everything he needed from the car before it got towed away.  Of course he grabs things like cds, sneakers, etc.  I'm yelling out of the ambulance for him to get the Wedding Binder!  Figures the one thing that he would leave in the car would be the Wedding Binder with everything in it!

Hang in there!  It will all pass and you still have plenty of time to focus on the wedding!

  • My dog had to be rushed to the vet's as he was experiencing seizures. Luckily they gave us a break on the bloodwork fee, but still $250 to tell us that they can't find any metabolic reasons for the seizures.

  • My hot water heater is probably on its way out.  Fiance and I went to price it out last week and its going to be almost $1,000.  The worst part is about $750 of that is labor!! The actual system only cost about $250.
  • I agree.  I bought a new car 2 wks ago, so that was a lot of research and stress!  Then last weekend it was already in the shop for the hybrid battery.  Ugg.  Good luck with the repairs!
