October 2012 Weddings

I do vs. I will

So we've planned our ceremony with the preacher.  I was kinda sad to find out we won't be saying I do.  What is read is a question of will you, not do you.  So he said we need to say I will.  Anyone else run into this?  I know it sounds silly, I've just always imagined saying "I do".  Oh & the lace around our super cute ring bearer pillow says I do! lol

Re: I do vs. I will

  • I'm not overly concerend, it's just a wording thing. If you really want to say "I do" just have the officiant change the wording around a bit so the logical answer is I do.

  • I actually had to look this up in our wedding service, I knew we wern't saying "I do" but I didn't remember exactly how it was worded.  Anyway we are saying, "It is my wish" in response to the Pastor's question, which begins, "Is it your wish....."

  • Personally, I wanted to say "I do", and luckily, the ceremony we chose has it as our answer.

  • Our pastor asked us which we'd prefer to say. We stuck with "I do."

  • I think we had our officiant change things around so we could answer with "I do"..

  • It sounds really important to you.  Talk to the officiant about it, they might be willing to change it for you.

  • We had a choice and FI wanted to be more traditional (I didn't care).  Regardless, our minister has been very flexible with the wording of most elements of the ceremony.  Hopefully yours can be too since this is something that is reasonable, and traditional.  It's not like you are asking to say something in Klingon (not that there is anything wrong with that).

  • We are being super weird and having Dr. Suess themed vows etc so we will be saying I will as part of them. I am not bothered by it at all bc they will be so out of the ordinary that I think it will be great!

  • I think I prefer I do...but I suppose thinking about it ... I don't know if I truly have a preference. I will go look to see how our format is set up - and ask FI what he thinks.

  • FI and I will be saying "I do." However, we're being married by a JOP so the wording's pretty much under our control.

  • I'm glad you brought this question up because we were not given this option.  I will be sure to tell the minister that we want to say "I do"
