Re: Oh my effing EW

  • I TOLD YOU ALL MUSHROOMS WERE GROSS.

But, I totally want Skittles Jelly Beans now. nom.
  • Way to ruin food for me Nebb....

.... I'm kidding, but really thats gross.  I'll admit to buying canned mushrooms but I should know damn well that most things that come from a can are bad.  Also, I'm pumped that when I eat bread I'm eating "human" things.  HUMANS ARE YUMMY.
  • All of my weird food issues now suddenly don't seem so bad!  Out of that article I only eat bread and even that is not often.

  • Ewwww... The human hair thing is really nasty...

I've always been leary of canned mushrooms so I don't eat them, thank god for that. I only buy fresh. Aren't threy grown in poo though?
  • Nebb, this is what I found:
Because mushrooms have no chlorophyll, they must get all their nutrients from organic matter in their growing medium. The medium, called compost, is scientifically formulated of various materials such as straw, corn cobs, cotton seed and cocoa seed hulls, gypsum and nitrogen supplements.

    Either way, they're still fungus.

Dirt/compost will always have some poop in it. Most of your veggies are growing in poop anyway. who cares. You like poop, I thought. ;)
  • I'm going to throw out my frozen shrimp when I get home. It wasn't that good anyway.

And this just solidifies my mushroom aversion.

  • The only things on that list I eat regularly are grains.  Fail.  Now I don't want to eat any more bread.

  • I LOVE me some shrooms.  I wont be buying canned anymore.

I don't see an issue with the whole growing things in "poop."  Half the time it's cow manure and their diet is mainly "vegetable" and grain based.  If it was being mixed in with poo from a meat eater I'd be more grossed out.  I don't even know if what I just said is even logical.
  • I've never bought canned mushrooms just because they look nasty.  Fresh ones are so much more aesthetically pleasing.  And they taste way better.

  • Wow - 5 minutes ago I would have sworn there was nothing I could possibly read to make me stop eating bread.  I honestly think I never want to eat it again now.

You bet your ass I'm still gonna eat bread.

These are five things, you guys.  Nasty shiit gets into virtually every single thing you eat that you buy at a store or restaurant.  The only way to guarantee none of this crap ends up in any of your food is to grow all your own food yourself.  And even then you can't be guaranteed that a bunny rabbit won't come along and piss on your green beans.

We eat a lot of shrimp. I feel like it would be a huge hassle to only get domestic. I know I should look but I don't. Also, I don't really care where my mushrooms are grown cause mushrooms are delish! Mmmmmmm poop fungi!
  • I think if you can get past eating shrimp knowing that they are full bodied little animals, lol, then who the eff cares where they come from.  They're yum-oh.

  • That's gross, but honestly I will probably keep eating it anyway.  Health fail.

I recently learned that gelatin is made from ground up animal hide/bones - mainly pig. I also learned that there is gelatin in Frosted Mini Wheats, so they are not vegetarian/vegan.

My dad has always worked at a meat plant since I can remember. I'm pretty sure that has desensitized me from any concern about what I eat. ;) It's just a fact of life.

Just yesterday I was thinking that I wished I liked shrimp because it's healthy and you can do so many things with it. I take that back now.
  • lately I've been so grossed out by all seafood, and I've really been not happy with the idea of foreign shirmp for awhile now. I won't order it anymore and restaurants unless I know where it's from.

I love seafood. I hope I can stomach it again. =P

And the bread thing...ick! I've been trying to get J to eat bakery bread that is more 'clean' but he swears the pieces are too small and flimsy. I do want to try to make my own.

  • I'm just going to forget I ever read this.

  • Eh, none of that really bothers me.  I eat mostly fresh food and produce anyways.  You get what you pay for IMO.

Plus, we all eat a pound of bugs a year in our sleep anyways.

  • Boobs- most farms use some kind of compost and fertilizer.  I dont get the big deal about the poop.  Just wash your stuff.  Its not like it is a pure shiit sandwich.
