Cake VS. Pie

Morning ladies,

Just wanted to get some response on something the FI and I are considering!

We went cake tasting, found a bakery we like, but we still much prefer pie over cake.  The FI is actually the one who suggested it, kind of as a joke I think, but I don't see anything wrong with it.  Cheesecake is being served as the caterers dessert and we're thinking of serving 3 kinds of pie in exchange for wedding cake.  I've never been to a wedding were anyones done this, but at a winter wedding who wouldn't love some apple pie!!  Plus, the pie is about $150 cheaper than the cake!

What would you all think if there was pie instead of cake??

    Go for it! There is no rule that says you must have cake! You should have a dessert you and FI like. Pie is a great choice!

    If that's what you're into, go for it.  I think most people get cake because you can decorate it and it's easier to cut into neat slices.

    You can have whatever dessert you want at your wedding.

    I personally do not like pie, but there are plenty of people that don't like cake.  Either way you will probably please a majority of the crowd.  I'd say go with the pie if that is your favorite.

    We're doing both!  FI loves cake and I love pie.  And the pie IS cheaper.  Best of luck!

    I am not a huge pie fan. So for me, it would be a bummer to not get cake. But plenty of people like pie so it would probably work.

    I don't like cake, so I would be happy about pie.. I'm trying to convince my FI we should go this way, actually, but he feels that anything deviating from the traditional wedding he's picturing in his head is "wierd", so pie is out, cake is in for us.. I would much rather have pie, as long as it's nicely displayed..

    I don't think you need to have cake if you'd rather have pie - I'd be just as excited for pie if I were a guest!  I could be the wrong person to ask though because I like pretty much any dessert.  :-)

    I say go for it, but I may be a bit bias as we're having pie instead of cake too ;)

    Our wedding is thanksgiving weekend here in Canada (2 weeks away), so we're having pumpkin & apple pies which my mother and I are making (we're only having 65 people).

    Honestly, everyone we've told that we're having pie instead of cake has loved the idea!  Most weddings I go to not that many people eat the cake, so I think it's a way to trim a bit from the budget without really missing out on something.

    Genetic Testing needed as this is a mutation of Cystic Fibrosis.

    We're doing pie too! We're actually doing both...our primary dessert is going to be Key Lime Pie since we live in Florida and are having a lot of out of town guests and both FI and I prefer it over cake. But we want to do the traditional cutting so we're going to go with a simple 2 tier cake with some sheet cake in the back for people who prefer cake or, for people who want both! We're actually going to be ordering our pie from the local grocery store...it beats a lot of the key lime pie we get elsewhere so why not! Cool

    I love cake, he loves pie and cheesecake. We are having some of each! And some chocolates for our mothers - huge chocoholics!

    Friends of ours got married in March and they had pie! People LOVED it! They also put some "pie-toppers" (an I-Do Sign and a picture frame) on the pies. They were delicious! I think your wedding should reflect YOU and should be unique. I think it's great if people don't just copy everybody else and give their wedding their personal touch!

    Piiiiiiie = Yummmmmmy!  Do it!  Cake is overrated ;)  Besides, I think a lot of people like pie, they just don't think pie when they think wedding because of the typical tradition.  Anyway, I think having pie is a great (and budget friendly) plan!

    I love any kind of dessert or sweet. I think pie is a fine choice, actually you see a lot of brides moving away from cake these days and with pies, cookies and other favorite or cultural desserts. In fact there was a girl on my June board, that only did pies.

    You can't please everyone and it is your wedding day, so you and your FH need to be happy.

    I really like this idea!  Maybe you could change the pie flavors to add some winter feel?  Like an Apple Pie with some cinnamon?  Or a Cherry Pie with a chocolate crust (i.e. chocolate covered cherry).
