Riviera Maya?

My fiance are looking for a more adventurous honeymoon. Originally we were thinking Costa Rica but a travel agent told us that October-November (when we would leave) is their rainy season. No thanks! Belize was suggested instead and 2 different agents told us they like Belize better anyway (they've been to both). The Riviera Maya was also suggested because they are very similar. But I guess you won't find any all inclusive resorts/getaways to Belize so we are leaning more towards Riviera Maya since it would be more budget friendly.

Has anyone ever been or have they looked into going? Are there any particular resorts you would recommend?

There are a ton of brides who have been. I have been a few times, though not for my HM. Just scroll down few the first two pages of this board and you'll see a ton of posts already exist. You will also get a mountain of recommendations for many resorts on here, so if you could narrow down what type of resort experience you want and budget, that may help people to give good advice.

  • Valentin Imperial Maya in Riviera Maya is great. It's a large, all inclusive adults only resort. They have a huge pool and beach, a handleful of restaurants, and dailiy activities (spanish lessons, bike rides, sea kayaking, etc). Plus, nearby is a number of parks- Xcaret, Xel-Ha and Xplor. If you're looking for adventure, Xplor is definitely the way to go- they have ziplining, ATV driving, cave swimming and cave paddleboarding. It's tons of fun. There are also Mayan ruins in the area to explore, as well as cenotes (sink holes). We had tons of fun and our only regret was we didn't stay longer to enjoy everything!
  • I stayed at the Aventura Spa Palace (Part of the Palace Resorts group) and loved every second of it. Adults only, all inclusive, but easy to do things off site if you want. Also, you can go to any of the other resorts in the family for free, eat there, as long as you come back to sleep in your room.
    Praying for a miracle!

Aventura Spa Palace is turning into the Hard Rock Hotel in Fall 2013, so there is the strong possibility that it will be a very different place.

I second this! Fiance and I went here in Oct of 2011 and had a fabulous time! The service was amazing and the beaches were beatiful.  We did one excursion that was ziplining, snorkeling and the Mayan Ruins all in one and then also swam with the dolphins.
