All inclusive?

Has anyone been to an ell inclusive resort? Would you do it again? Do you prefer an all inclusive or would you just stay in a hotel and do your own thing? We have never been to an all inclusive and don't know which route to go? We were thinking cayman islands or something Caribbean? Any suggestions much appreciated!

Re: All inclusive?

  • We did an all inclusive, and I am glad we did.  Normally I am very proactive in research a lot before I go on vacation on where to stay, what to see, what to eat....but I was so consumed with wedding planning that in this case, I really didn't want to.  It was nice to just go somewhere and relax, and know that we wouldn't have ti worry about where we were eating every single day.  We stayed in St. Lucia.

  • I love AI's.  I think they're great if you're going somewhere like the carribean.
  • I absolutely adore AI's they are definitely the way to go, like PP said with all the wedding planning the last thing you wanna have to do is worry about coordinating where you are gonna eat and what you are gonna do while on your HM, AI's take all the work out of it so you can just drop your beach bags and enjoy!
  • While I understand that some people like AIs for very valid reasons, you will never find me staying at one.  Oour honeymoon hotel had breakfast and dinner included every night and that was too much for me.  My husband and I like to do our own thing.
  • I had a friend that went to the Caribbean for her HM and didn't stay at an all-inclusive. She said for the most part she regrets it, just because every night they went to eat, she was conscious of the cost of the food and drinks and how much they were spending. She said she would have rather spent the exact same amount for AI, but not have to consider cost every time they wanted a drink or maybe wanted to splurge at dinner.
Not so much a cost-saving measure as a peace of mind measure.
  • 99 percent of the time we do AI and we love it. Let's face it, when your on vacay (hm,anniversary, ect..) do you really want to be counting every penny? Just 'cause you do AI DOESN'T mean you can't get the whole island experiance. It's called get up,get moving and get off the resort. We generally do 3 excursions ( we try to do them with locals as opposed to "canned" tours or rent a car and go on our own) on a 7 night trip and try to eat or have a few drinks at a local establishment at least once.

I think it is funny how the people who are anti-AI's usually use that as a reason. We went to an awesome AI down in Playa Del Carmen and we left the resort every single day and explored by ourselves not on some canned tour and had an amazing time. But it was great to come back every night and get a great dinner with yummy drinks and watch a show and go to bed. Plus I don't want to think about having to get up and try and find somewhere with breakfast when I am usually hungry right away.

i've done AI and non-AI and both have their pluses and minuses. to me staying in an AI dosn't  mean not leaving the resort for fun or food-but it certainly does take care of my drinks at the pool.
sometimes they're worth it, sometimes they're not.

we've done AI in DR, Jamaica, and Bahamas, we left the resort and went on various tours everytime and we loved it.  It is nice to not worry about money on a nice trip.  If you're considering the carribbean then i would highly rec'd it.
we're going to dubai and maldives and they dont have those options there :(
