Opinions please?!

My fianc hasn't been a whole lot of help during the planning process and I feel horrible saying it, but when he does have ideas they're a little out there and sometimes pretty unrealistic. His latest idea is having a house drawn carriage available for our guests during the reception to take a ride through downtown. I love taking a horse drawn carriage ride, but I'm just not sure our guests will want to leave our reception for 20 minutes to go for a ride and come back. Maybe I'm totally over thinking this and our guests might love it. I would just hate to spend the money on it and no one actually go for a ride. What do you ladies think? Would you do this if they had it at a wedding? It would be after dinner and cake and toasts and such. Thanks sooooooooooo much ladies!!

  • That's what I said! It's 500 for 2 hours, not an outrageous expense, but money I think would be better spent on something else! I know I wouldn't want to leave sometimes wedding reception right in the middle of all the fun! I'd rather be there celebrating. His other thought was to use that instead of a shuttle at the end of the night to take people to their hotels. That makes a little more sense to me, but still not sure it would be any more appreciated than any other shuttle for the cost! I just feel awful I keep shooting down all his ideas! Lol

  • It SEEMS sweet and romantic, but I doubt very many people would actually use it.
What did you think would happen if you walked up to a group of internet strangers and told them to get shoehorned by their lady doc?~StageManager14

I would not do it.  Think about it this way--You spend $500 for 2 hours.  Each ride is 20 minutes.  That is only 6 rides @ $84 each ride.

This logic can also be applied to the carriage taking them back to the hotel.  20 minutes is not too long to wait for a carriage ride, but if you have any amount of guests that need to go to the hotel, those twenty minutes will add up.  If I am 5th in line, that is an additional hour of waiting for a carriage with hurting feet and the effects of a full belly and booze.  A shuttle would be better for transporting larger groups.

  • I would only use it if we got really bored at the wedding and wanted to get away. However, if that was the case, many people would want to use it, and then if we went outside and it was not readily available, we'd just go back inside. Also, once we got outside, we might just leave since we've already exited the reception. So, in order for this to work, (a) your wedding would have to be so boring that people want to leave for 20 minute, and (b) there would have to be multiple carriages. I think we all spend too much money and time on our weddings to want people to do activities outside of the reception. It definitely wouldn't work as a means of transportation to the hotel for reasons PPs mentioned.

  • Thank you so much ladies! I told him all these things, but he still kept insisting that everyone would love it! I would have never asked this question, but he actually told me I should ask my wedding ladies, haha, apparently he thought you all would be on his side!! Poor guy just doesn't get it!! Glad I have a unanimous no from all of you to add to my argument!!
