Snarky Brides

WR: What would you like to eat with this?

Since it's slow, I figured I'd ask a WR question.  I am extremely picky when it comes to food, so I thought I would get some suggestions.  We are able to pick up to 4 of the  appetizers to go with our meal.

Meal (buffet) will be a choice of:
Rosemary Chicken
Pork medallions
Lasagna
Vegetarian lasagna
Vegetable medley
Salad
Bread

The appetizer options are:
*Finger Sandwiches (Choose one: cucumber, dill, zesty cream; chicken salad; bacon, cheddar, chive; salmon, red onion, sour cream)

*Assorted Crostini (choose one: White bean and rasted garlic; Artichoke, citrus, capers; olive tapenade; sundried tomato bruschetta)

*Rosemary Pinwheels (have parmesan, cream cheese, garlic, and rosemary in crescent rolls)

*Tortilla Spirals (cream cheese and pesto)

* Ozark Tartlets (warm) (Choose one: artichoke, parmesan; swiss, ham, spinach; carmelized onion, thyme)

*Cheese, Fruit, Nuts

*Chips and salsa

*Vegetable tray

*Fruit Salsa (served with cinnamon and sugar tortilla chips)

*Spanakopita (warm) - spinach and feta cheese stuffed pastries

*Tri-Color cheese torte

*Ozark Caviar (Black-eyed peas, peppers, onions, apple cider, and bacon served with corn tortilla chips) - Yes, you're in Arkansas :)

*Parmesan, spinach, artichoke dip

*Beer cheese dip

*Hummus

The appetizers will be served for 45-60 minutes after the ceremony for a cocktail hour.  Any suggestions are helpful. TIA!

PS: Bonus points for your favorite type of wine.

i'm no help on wine.  I always go as local as possible and enjoy light fruit wines (apple, rhubarb) and rich merlots

I should clarify!  They only give me a choice of 4 types.  Do enough people drink each type that we should have a few bottles of each?  I hate wine and no nothing about it.

Available house wines include Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Chardonnay, and White Zinfandel.

<div>it depends upon what I'm eating with it.  With most of your menu I'd likely choose a lighter white wine like the Zin but I reach for a red (merlot)  every time I have lasagna.  They just pair better to my tastes.</div><div>
</div><div>i think having a white and a red as options would be really nice.  If you simply must pick one, go with a white since may more people universally will drink a Zin (in my opinion) than a merlot which can be too much for some.</div>
  • I will ask, as a anti-cheese girl that you make sure that there's at least one cheese free/dairy free option.  Thanks!  Other than the cheesy things, all the other food sounds numalicious!

<div>Pick me up on your drive by.  Spankopita = automatic winning in my book.</div>

Ok so that's more than four, but oh well. I just bolded the two types of finger sandwiches that sounded good to me, plus the others that looked the best. Pinwheels and spanakopita would probably be my top two picks. As far as wines I'd only drink the white zin, but I'm not a big wine drinker.

  • LOL at the seating chart, hahahaha.  Honestly though I know I'm no help but I don't think you can make bad choices with this kind of spread.  Damn.
I'm so crashing your wedding and taking the best looking spot in the joint. You know I can do it! Seriously though - I don't think you can go wrong. And chardonnay please, because it is my favorite.
    Posted by rachers1017
You seriously could since you know the date and location... but you'll be placed at the misfits table if you crash, FYI... there is one seat left lol :)

I think what I may do is just get a few bottles of everything.  There is a wide variety of opinions and we planned to do around 8 bottles or so.  Both mothers are white zin drinkers so we'll get some of that to be safe also.

Everything sounds awesome. As for wine, I'm a red girl. Ditto the pinot noir that's my fav. I also enjoy cabernet sav. a lot.

FWIW I think we had merlot and cab at our wedding and I think that's pretty standard though I know tons of people who like pinot noir so if you can offer it that might be a nice change of pace.
<strong>My first thought was that you should have a potato or rice on the dinner menu</strong>, but then I saw all the appetizers and realized it wouldn't matter.  Everything sounds so good! I vote for the bruschetta crostini, and the chicken salad for the finger sandwiches.  If you go for the tartlets, caramelized onion would be delicious.  And you have to go for the rosemary pinwheels.  Bonus points for you if you can get them to give you the recipe so you can forward it to me. For wine, I prefer sauvignon blanc to chardonnay.  It's typically lighter and crisper.  If it's not available, I'm happy to drink chardonnay.  I prefer merlot over cabernet, and I'm not a white zinfandel fan.  However, if you have a lot of older women on your guest list, white zinfandel tends to be pretty popular with that demographic.  Before anyone yells at me about that, I'm no spring chicken myself, and no offense intended.  I've just noticed that white zin is most popular with women who are older than I am. I don't think you can go wrong with any of the options.  It would be hard to decide between so many good choices.

  • While not the nicest, I think Cab and Chard will be the most familiar and appeal to the majority of guests. and all the apps sound delish.
  • Thank you very much everyone.

I think we decided on the sundried tomato bruschetta crostini, cheese/nuts/fruit, spinach and artichoke dip, and spanakopita.

I think it will be a good  mix and will please everyone.

  • I am loving the love for spanakopita! I'm doing that at my wedding too!
  • edited June 2012
Out of the wines you have available, I would say Cabernet Sauvignon as the red and Chardonnay as the white.  While I'm not really too keen on Chardonnay, I detest White Zinfandel (I love Zinfandel-the red- itself, but I am NOT a fan of rosés in general, although my Grandmother adores them).  Those are just my personal opinions though.

    Food wise:

*Fruit Salsa (served with cinnamon and sugar tortilla chips) **I think this sounds interesting**

*Assorted Crostini (choose one: White Bean and roasted garlic; artichoke, citrus, capers; olive tapenade; sundried tomato bruschetta)

    *Hummus

*Ozark Tartlets (warm) (Choose one: artichoke, parmesan; swiss, ham, spinach; carmelized onion, tyme)

That leaves plenty of choices for those who cannot have cheese, but as a person who *loves* cheese, I would be very happy to nibble on any of these.

As for spanakopita, I live in a Greek neighborhood, so I get more than enough at home to want to eat it at a wedding, thus its lack of inclusion from me.  Though I understand why other people would want it there if they can't get it everyday!
