Ceremony & Reception in same room

I am leaning towards the idea of having our ceremony & our reception in the same room. I would like to have the room set up for the reception and have the ceremony on the dance floor. I plan to have no food or drinks served until after the ceremony. Any suggestions on how I can smoothly transition from the ceremony to the reception?

Re: Ceremony & Reception in same room

  • Are you going to be renting a space at a venue or is this a backyard thing?

If you are doing this at a venue they will have a good idea how this could be done, if not can you describe the space a little more?
  • I have been to a few weddings in the same room. The first was they got married on the dance floor, we watched from our tables. Then we got up for the receiving line. Once we sat down, the reception started.

The second was the room was set up for the ceremony for a close family member. Afterwards, the guests went out to a hallway reception and a few family members converted the room. The cermony took up half the space and there was a divider that blocked off the other half. We just moved the divider and the helped set up the tables (only family members who volunteered did this).
  • We did that.

People came in and sat at their table, we got married in front of the room, and the staff was advised that as soon as we were "pronounced" by the officiant, they came in with the salads and the reception began.  We had no transition.
