  • I've been to:
    The Tides: great food
Bretton Woods: also had great food and I loved the interior.  Beautiful grounds as well.

I looked into and have price quotes from:
Lake Valhalla Club- the venue we chose.  The prices vary based on time of year but I have price info for April, May, October, and November.  Love the inside and I had my tasting last week and loved the food.  The manager has been great to work with so far.  I've also heard great things from coworkers who have been to events here.
Lake Mohawk Country Club - I have price info on this place as well.  The price per head varies because they charge you based on what your guests order for dinner (unless you do buffet).  I have the pricing info for them and I can tell you what the quote was that we received for 130 ppl on a Saturday night.

PM me if you want some more information on the two above.

A friend of mine looked into Skylands Manor....it was going to cost a LOT.  I've been inside this place (spent the night...it was geat).  All of the rooms are so nice, however, the ballroom is not great.  I know they charge you a per person price and then you pay additional for the catering since technically they are a catering company operating out of the venue....not really an in-house caterer I guess.  But the grounds are lovely.  I go there all the time since it so close to my house.

  • I visited Perona Farms and Lake Mohawk CC as well as 4 others not on your list. We ended up booking Lake Mohawk CC - really loved the feel and the beauty of the lake.

If you PM me your email I can send you the menu and pricing information for Lake Mohawk. Unfortunately I don't have it for Perona Farms, we were a little turned off on our visit.

  • I just went to the Mill on Monday and Doolans. Depending on the date, the price varies. The Mill was very reasonable for the winter months. Doolan's price was pretty much the same no matter when the wedding was.

I went to a bridal shower at The Brownstone about 2y ago and felt that it looked on the decline. We were in a room on the 2nd floor. The wallpaper was falling off & the carpeting looked dull. I wasn't impressed. BUT, that was 2yr ago. Perhaps they've renovated it since.
  • I just booked The Tides for my May 2014 wedding.  We went last week for a cocktail hour tasting and it was great.  We've been dealing with Tito.  We locked in 2012 pricing, found out they are updating the crystal room in early 2014, and they fired the pastry chef. (if you look at reviews most people complain about the cake)

If you want any other information just let me know :)

Your list is all over the place with respect to style, price & GEOGRAPHY.   There's a two hour spread & a ton of traffic between Spring Lake & Sparta.

You have to narrow this down before you make yourself crazy.

Where do you live?  Where does FI live?  Where do the majority of your guests live?  Do you need a venuue with options for people to stay over night?  What's your budget?

Start with the geography & pick venues that are most convenient for your guests within your price range.  You can work your way out if you hate everything close to you & your guests.
  • we live in morristown...our families are from North jersey down to Toms River, so we are all over the place.  Yes, we need overnight accomodations but figured we could always get a shuttle to a hotel.  My FI and I want somewhere where we can have an outdoor ceremony, and even outside cocktail hour.  However, we do want the venue to be able to accomodate indoors, in case of bad weather.  we are looking at 150 people at $100 per person.  any suggestions are welcome!  i feel like a lot of the shore venues got bad reviews and are outdated, but ideally we would love a beach wedding.

I looked at two of the places on your list.  Bretton Woods is worth a look, their pricing for a Friday night wedding was about $120/pp including tax and tip.  Olde Mill Inn is beautiful, although I didn't care for the ballroom, but it would have the outside cocktail hour option.  It's pricier, it would have been about $140/pp on a Friday night including tax and tip, you might be able to negotiate down.  Keep in mind this was 2011 pricing.

I also recommend my venue, Ravello's in East Hanover.  They are just above $100/pp including tax and tip for a Friday night.  There is a beautiful outside ceremony space, plenty of room indoors (they do one wedding at a time) and the food and service are fantastic.

  • Hello,

I want to start visiting venues and am looking to spend around $100pp all inclusive in northern NJ.  one of the places I had in mind was Bretton Woods in Morris Plains.  Does anyone know if thier prices include the cost of a caterer/food/alcohol?  any other suggestions for that price that can accomodate 130-150 people?

    thanks!
