wedding thank you notes

Agh! So I ordered our personalized thank you notes this morning. On the front, I put my first name, then FI's first and last name (i.e. K___ and T____ B_____).  Sent in the order and spent a fair amount. FI got upset b/c he said his name is supposed to come first. I wasn't even thinking! I immediately sent an email to the company requesting the change and have no idea how much THAT will cost. Did some reading on it and it sounds like it could go both ways. Which is correct?

Re: wedding thank you notes

  • OP I believe you are correct! I think the man's first name is never supposed to be separated from his last name. It should be Jane and John Doe.  This is how I wrote my parents' names on the program, too.

This. Traditionally, you never separate the man's first and last names from each other: Jane and John Doe is the correct way.

  • Dang - sorry for the bad advice!

Either way - I would call the company and talk to someone to make sure the thank you's are printed how you want them!
  • I don't think it's that big of a deal. I don't even put our names on return address labels, just the address, and especially not after the wedding because I'll have a hyphenated name.
  • Thanks to all for the input. I guess I've now made my first wedding faux pas. It was easier to have it changed to his name/my name/last name to avoid the drama with FI. I read such conflicting advice online that it wasn't worth the argument with him. Hoping it's not that big of a deal. In retrospect I should have just put Mr. and Mrs. B. Agh!!
