Ipod?

Has anyone been to or had a wedding, where instead of paying a dj or band to play, they just created a playlist?  How did it work?  Did people still dance?  What were some pros and cons?  Did you have someone to announce things like first dance, bouquet toss, cake-cutting, etc?
Thanks!
I'll give you all night movie marathons and a triple espresso so you can stay awake!

Ipod weddings are becoming very popular, and there are pros and cons to them.

    On the pros side:

    - Can be relevatively inexpensive
    - You completely control everything that is being played

    Cons:

    - You will still need something to play the ipod through, which means equipment rental and some type of knowledge to hooking it up

    - You will still have to find someone to do the announcing (bridal party intros, cake cutting, garter / bouquet toss)

    - Ipods can not read a crowd to know what songs are working and what songs aren't.

    - Perhaps the biggest con is YOU will have to worry about the music on your wedding day as opposed to letting somoene else do it.

A DJ or band can help MC the whole night and keep everything on schedule.  Plus the odds are better that they'll have the random songs that someone is bound to request.  Hire a DJ and let them pay the 99 cents to download the chicken dance!

Also, Mr. Lewis, I'm fairly certain vendors aren't allowed on the boards.
