Need info on photographer Jay Murdock

Hey girls!! I'm planning on hiring Jay Murdock to do our photos for the wedding. Has anyone used him or has anyone heard anything about him? TIA girls!

    I personally am not a big fan of his work. not that it's bad, but it's not great either. I understand he is "afforable" compared to others, but i can take just as nice pictures with my camera as the ones he has on his website. I know other girls have tons of other recommendations to share. I also have a friend who is breaking into wedding photography and is just as affordable as Murdock but the quality is ten times better. PM me if you are interested. Good luck!

    Hi Ashes!

    Have you already met with him? Are you already in contract?

    I am going to have to agree with PP. Although I have never heard of this photog, I did just go check out his website and I am less than impressed. The lighting is bad in most photos and I have to question some of the angles he did. It just doesnt have that "professional" look to it.

    I won't be of much help for suggesting another affordable photog since I am in Dayton, but I would suggest to continue looking around and getting ideas from other fellow knotties before making your decision.

    Agree with pp, I also just recently went to his website and he doesn't appear to have consistency or do well indoors and in low lighting.

    I noticed you were in the Columbus area, and Lisa Rice who is based in Columbus did our engagement pictures, which you can see in my "mrs" bio.  She is a budget photographer, and although not as inexpensive as Jay Murdock, you could work something out with her.


    We could suggest more photographers.  What's the budget you want to stay within?

    Thanks girls! He isn't my main photographer, just someone we wanted extra (I wanted someone shooting gms getting ready)! He isn't the greatest but is the cheapest. I appreciate it!

    He is my photographer and I LOVE him.....he is great, and have great references not only is he affordable but very friendly as well.....Just because he don't charge thousands of dollars don’t mean a thing.... he does GREAT work and to me his pics look just as good/ and sometimes better than someone charging thousands .....I highly recommend him!!!

    Oh ok, gotcha.  Just double check whether your contract with your main photographer allows you to have another professional photographer at your wedding.  I know mine doesn't allow it.

    Ya - this is a big thing that photographers don't let you do, but both are fine with it!!!!

    I have hired Jay for both engagement and wedding- and I love him for the price point! We did engagement photos with him, and for all of $75 I got great photos of my FI and I together!

    Through the engagement session though I realized that any "creative" shots I want, I need to tell him what look I want and he sets up the shot. I was happy with his photography skills- just needed to push him to think outside the box for the photos. I wanted to be able to have photos of the whole wedding day- and because of his pricing I am able to do that.

    I couldn't find anyone as affordable as him, and he has an amazingly quick turnaround (sent us 10 edited photos the same day after our engagement, and within a week I had a disk of almost 200 photos waiting in my mailbox!) Although the next most affordable I found was Studio 3 Photography.

    I should have a few pics in my profile- but check out his facebook page he puts some up there regularly.
