Workout Accountability: TGIF!

Hooray Friday!

I lifted last night (arms/shoulders/back) and did the elliptical.  I'm always the most sore after an upper body workout.  I'm going for a 3-4 mile run later, it's gorgeous out!

I am sleeping this weekend. Seriously. I've been so tired all week, I just need to catch up on sleep.  Anyone have any fun plans?

Re: Workout Accountability: TGIF!

  • I like this I'll join you guys in May ;)
  • Morning and TGIF!

I didn't get to do weights with FI tonight.  I came home from work to find that my dog's allergies have gotten so bad, she scratched her paws to the point that they were bleeding.  So we spent the night talking to the vet and distracting her with toys and playtime to keep her from scratching any further.  She's on meds now, so fingers crossed that I don't come home to more blood today!
We're hoping to go for a run tonight, since the weather will be gorgeous.  And finally, weights tomorrow (I'm pretty sure I've now missed out or skipped them outright for the past two weeks.)

No fun plans - just lots of relaxation before a couple of busy weekends coming up.  I do have a few recipes to try, so Sunday will probably become an all-out cooking day.

  • Good morning!  I didn't do weights last night but I did jump on my trampoline.

This weekend, FI and my parents are meeting for the first time.  And Sunday night is the Elton John concert.  Yay!

  • Salandria, you should join us now :)  Tell us about yourself.

So last night was a HUGE disappointment.  I got my tetanus booster yesterday.  I thought it was the regular Td but what they gave me was the Tdap which has the pertussis in it.  Well, when I was young I had such a bad reaction to the pertussis that it's all over my medical records to NOT give it to me.  Needless to say I felt off all day after it and I went to the gym and ran a whopping 6 minutes at 7 on the treadmill and was drenched in sweat, feverish, and felt super sick.

Tonight I'm not going to be able to work out and probably not Saturday either even though Saturday will have LOTS of walking around :)
  • Oh Lobsters I feel your pain!  We have finally JUST gotten our dog's allergies under control (I hope).  He rubbed his face so hard on the carpet that his eyes & mouth were really raw.  Poor guy.  Hopefully the worst of it is behind us & we have the right combo of remedies for him.  The season is so bad this year.

I did not work out yesterday and had a business dinner so I didn't eat great either.  This morning I lifted back, did abs, and took a spin class.  Getting back on track with eating today too after my day off yesterday.

Hope everyone's Friday goes by super fast!
  • Ibarr, that's awful that they didn't check your medical history! I hope you feel better soon!

My FI's friend ended up ditching out on my oild change, so I made it to the gym and got 30 minutes of weight lifting/crunches then 15 on the stairmaster and 30 on the elliptical. Felt amazing! I still ran into issues with the weights being MUCH harder for me to do before cardio, but I'm still going to incorporate weights before cardio into my workout routine.

Hoping to get some light cardio in today. I was invited to a spa party, but I don't think I'm going to go because I KNOW I'll get suckered into buying stuff I don't need.

I would love to have a relaxing productive weekend. Right now I don't have any plans and I think I actually want to keep it that way.

  • Awww lobsters!!! Your poor baby :( I hope she's feeling better soon! @lbarr omg! I hope you are feeling better in a couple days.

This morning I went to the gym and did an interval work out on the treadmill for 45 minutes. There were these two woman next to me trying to have a conversation while they were running so they were literally shouting at eachother since they were running and couldn't talk normally. It was so annoying! I could hear them through my headphones. Thankfully they were only there for about 20 minutes of my work out. No weight loss/measurement loss in 2 weeks though. Ugh! I hope I'm not hitting another plateau!!!

  • Everyone here is amazing.

Lobsters: Poor pup, what kind of dog do you have?

lbarr: wtf. Seriously. I'd be pissed.

maribeth: I straight up cannot understand how people can carry on conversations while running.  It takes enough air to breathe let alone try and speak. This is why I can never run with a partner. So yeah, talkative runners, how do you guys do it?

entropic: I'm glad you're trying out the weights first.  Did you warm up at all before you started lifting?

  • Happy friday everyone! Yesterday I did my fastest 4 miles yet- broke my 9min/mile pace! Whoooot!!! Today it is supposed to be 80, so I am just going to walk 4 miles with my mom by the canal this afternoon- I just can't run when it is hot!

FI and I have a coed shower thrown by his parents tomorrow and Sunday I have an 8 mile run and lots of homework on the schedule! I am hopig to finish all the work for 2 of my classes so I can focus on a group project I have for the third!!

    Have a great weekend!
  • Good morning!

Oh, the joys of working in a high school on 4/20.

Last night was a workout bust, and we are going out to dinner with friends tonight, so it looks like tomorrow will be my next workout--probably C25K.

lobsters, hope your dog gets well soon! lbarr, although it sucks, I am so glad your reaction wasn't worse, if you kwim.

We are going antique shopping tomorrow and hopefully having some friends over. Unfortunately that means I have to get the house in order!

  • @Jude - Right! There is no way I could have a conversation while I'm running or really doing any kind of cardio. I am too out of breathe!

Salandria - I agree with lbarr! why wait?? Tell us about yourself and what your goals are!!

kpdorr - Congrats on breaking your pace time! That is awesome! Have fun at your shower!!

  • Happy Friday!

Last night I did 30 minutes on the elliptical, 5 minutes on the stairmaster and walked 10 minutes on the treadmill. I wanted to do some weight lifting but I was hungry and didn't think I should do anymore.

This weekend will be gorgeous, so I'll walk/jog with my dog.

    kp-Congrats on the record pace!

kw-If your dog hasn't been exposed to that environment before, she/he will probably be okay.  Fingers crossed!  When do you move?

Mari-I feel your pain, we get people having cell phone conversations super loud at the gym.  I can't stand it.

frances-have a wonderful, amazing wedding day!

Thanks for the puppy love everyone :) Jude, we have a Boston Terrier.  We rescued her in November from a puppy mill, so we're still discovering all of her spring/outdoor allergies (we know she's already allergic to certain proteins and plastic.) Right now she's on meds and we have to wipe down her paws with baby wipes after every walk, and she has to wear a cone whenever we aren't with her.  Kids will be nothing after this dog ;)  Here's our little allergic-to-the-world girl sleeping with her Easter ducky:

  • Thanks, KW!  The allergies are usually easily manageable with benadryl, with the absolute worst case scenario being that the dog needs a steroid- so don't worry too much!  Sadly, our girl doesn't respond to benadryl for some reason.
My vet was explaining that allergies are usually developed after initial exposure, not on first instance, so you should be okay for at least the first year.

  • Aw Lobsters she looks like a sweetheart.

Oh and ditto everyone else, Frances if you're reading, hope you have an fantastic wedding weekend!

  • Checking in quick between errands... keeping myself accountable. I woke up at 4am (couldn't sleep... ) and went to the gym at 5am this morning. Did a 20-minute run, 20 minutes on the row machine and a 20 minute high intensity interval workout with all sorts of goodies like burpees, squats, walking lunges, pushups, leg raises, jack knifes with stability ball, tricep dips and bent over rows. I feel great and everyone we've seen says I look "amazing", "slimmer," glowing".... it feels awesome. Hard work does pay off.

The day is finally here!!! Tomorrow morning bright and early at 7am I'll walk down the aisle on the beach to marry the man who makes my heart flutter with happiness.

    Have a great weekend everyone!

  • Haha I just stopped to read through all the messages (I'm working like Speed Racer over here hahaha)... THANK YOU ladies so much for the well wishes and encouragement over the past few months. I'll definitely be back next week... time to get ready for our honeymoon trip. :-)

The weather here tomorrow is supposed to be AWESOME! And for a beach wedding where the weather in CA has been rainy the past few weekends, it's a real blessing. Thank you all!!!! Catch you next week!

  • So excited for you Frances!  Pics when you're back :):)
  • After work, I'm going to do KenpoX before heading to Orlando for my grandmother's birthday:) I kind of have a feeling that my surprise bridal shower is Sunday so I want to make sure I work extra hard this weekend. ;)

  • @heyjude - I didn't warm up before weights. What do you typically do to warm up? That would probably explain why it's so much more challenging to start weightlifting on "cold" muscles.
