Dress for MOB - real mom styles???

HELP! I have 3 months left and am still searching for a dress for my mom to wear to my beach wedding! Nothing we've found online is cut for her apple shape and I've been searching for 2 months in every store near me. Everything we've seen is too flowy or casual and I want her in something that makes her look great.

Does anyone have any suggestions for styles or stores that work well for mom shapes? More detail: She's 60 yrs old so nothing too sexy, 5'3 160 with a tummy. She's got great legs and boobs, and will do something sleeveless with a jacket.

Check department stores. My mom bought her one MOG dress at Macys for one brothers wedding. She also found MOB and MOG dresses at bridal salons for the rest of our weddings.

And is your mom saying nothing sexy or are you? My mom's dress for two weddings were low v-neck halters that she loved. It's not something I would be comfortable wearing but my mom can rock that look.

    Check out Nordstrom.com and Macy's.com

I found my MOB dress at Macy's. MOG bought her dress at Nordstrom. Both of those stores have very lenient return policies. I wasn't sure of my size so I ordered two dresses and returned the one that didn't fit, no questions asked.

The bride's grandmother found a beautiful, ready to go dress at David's. I was very surprised at the selection of dresses at our local store. The prices were very reasonable, too. Pay attention to the return policy, though.

If your mom needs plus sizes try : onestopplus.com

  • Go to a bridal shop ASAP. I searched all kinds of department stores for a MOB dress. If I found a dress I liked, the color was wrong, or they didn't have my size. I finally ended up at a bridal salon and had tons of choices, since I could order the color and exact size I wanted. Many people think bridal salons are full of frumpy MOB dresses, but it isn't so. Many designers recognize that moms are now very fashionable.
You may be limited to Alfred Angelo's or David's Bridal since the wedding is in 3 months (my gown took 3 months to come in and a few weeks for alterations). But check out the sale racks in the other bridal salons. You might get lucky there too.
  • Thanks everyone! I'll pas these suggestions on to my mom and also expand my searc to more of the stores you suggested :D

  • The Clothing Cove In Downtown Milford has over 1000 Gowns in stock and carries a great collection of plus size gowns.....I love thier Soulmates Silk Collection They are beautiful and liightweight too which is great for a beach wedding...and they have a full selection of accessories too.
