QOTD: Do Not Play songs

What songs are on your "do not play" list?

Any certain songs that you and/or fiance hate with a passion???

The conga line question got me thinking about the songs that we are planning to include on this list....

Anything from the 70s. I went to a wedding last year where that's all they played! FI and I love dancing at weddings, so we really, really tried to get into it. But it just sucked and totally killed the party for us.

For me it's all group dances, country, and any 70's disco. I also am not a fan of jazz music so that won't be played at my wedding.  Here's a list of common DNP songs, although it seems to be a bit dated and I still like a few of the songs.

that is a great list!! thanks for sharing!

on our do not play list:
    Electric Slide
Shout (I know this is a wedding tradition, but we HATE it!)
    YMCA
Like A Virgin (inappropriate for children!!)
Chicken dance (yuck...I hadn't even thought to have to include that)
    ANYTHING country
I don't mind 1 or 2 songs from the 70's...but totally agree with BMore, at the wedding we went to two weeks ago, there was definitely too much disco and 70's/early 80's music
Sweet Caroline (HATE IT even though it is always played at weddings)

We also want to keep it to only about 3 or 4 slow songs (other than our first dance, father/daughter dance, and mother/groom dance)....we want people to have fun, and not to be too sappy :)

This is going to sound like a weird one, but fiance and I have decided to include "The Piano Man." At the last three (seriously, at all 3!) weddings we went to, for some reason, the DJ has decided to make this the final song, and has asked all guests still on the dance floor to hold hands in a big circle around the bride and groom, and everyone has awkwardly swayed/ran in and out of the circle during the whole song. Not sure if this is just some weird Indiana thing, but we want to avoid it!!

We love the cha cha slide (I know some people hate it but we love it!) and also love the Cupid Shuffle, so those will be our two "get off your butt and dance" songs.

Luckily for us no one has ever heard of the chicken dance so that song outted itself. Unfortunately that also means no one has ever heard of or done the electric slide before : We're banning certain Latin genres we can't stand and a few other songs in there. I agree with a lot of songs you girls have posted so here are others on my list: Low flo rida he sings this right? HATE! I will leave Anything thats was outplayed by Outkast Poker Face Lady Gaga...i hear this wayyy too much here Don't mind Shout, though I doubt it will be played, but i can't STAND the YMCA!! I'll have to come back and post more as I remember them lol

I think we'll go through with the band what we'd like them to play and what we'd like them to avoid, but because they're a band and not a DJ, I'm hoping I don't have to tell them not to "sing" the Chicken Dance or the Cha Cha Slide or whatever. I guess we'll see when we speak with the band leader :)

Sorry guys, I HATE group dances! And I LOVE Sweet Caroline and Piano Man! To each their own :)

And I absolutely abhore Fergie in general. She's terrible. There will be no Beyonce "All the Single Ladies" either. I'm sure I'll think of others.

    haha!

I actually like the song Sweet Caroline, but once again, it's one of those songs that everyone gets into a circle for (at least at Indiana weddings) and pretends to reach out and touch each other, and we just find big holding hand circle dances to be awkward!

And I LOVE LOVE LOVE Billy Joel (I have even seen him in concert)....it's just the circle thing that keeps happening that I hate!! Which is why we are nixing that song all together even though I love the song :)

everyone has really great ideas for do not play lists....I am afraid ours is going to get to be too long!

lol I love most line dances and group dances. I know a lot of people don't though.
    ours is:

    SHOUT
    We Are Family
    YMCA
    the Chicken Dance
    Mustang Sally
    Dancing Queen
    Mamma Mia
    My Sharona
    Love Shack
    Staying Alive
    Baby Got Back
    Twist and Shout
    Celebration
    Brick House
    the Twist
    Play that Funky Music
    Get Down Tonight

Now that I'm looking at it, I think ours has a lot of 70s music on it. But in all honesty, this is my 'dream' do not play list, in actuality I'll probably leave some of these off it it. I really don't want to alienate my grandparents from dancing.

ahhhhhh funny you should post this one! I had NEVER heard this played at a wedding until the wedding we were at on March 10th...after the first dance/other required dances, and like 5 slow songs, "It Wasn't Me" was the first uptempto/clubby song the DJ started playing. HUH??? it was so bizarre to me, we will definitely have to make sure it is on our list! It is the least wedding appropriate song I have ever heard, haha!

You guys are so picky!! ;)

    On our DNP list:

Anything by Train, Pink, or Katy Perry

Our DJ already told us he doesn't do line/group dances so we didn't have to bother tellling him our families won't dance to them

We'll be doing an ipod wedding, so we'll make the list and don't have to worry about it...

But I'm amused by how many of the do not plays mentioned I like.

For Ryan and I, we've agreed we won't play anything with vulgar lyrics. That is anything that is sexually inappropriate or filled with curse words. Unless it's in another language. I'm okay with that since I can't understand it.

My plan for my wedding is to email a lot of our guests and get their requests, with the understanding that we get veto power and nothing vulgar. From this I hope to get very ecclectic music. I have very ecclectic tastes. I like Christian, country, rock, pop, rock and roll, oldies, jazz, international, etc. I just don't like every song in those genres.

I definitely want to have some Bollywood music (I'm thinking A  Marriage Has Come to Town from Bride and Prejudice), some salsa music, and there was some Bosnian music we'd always dance to in my Bosnian friend's dorm room in college I definitely want. I also want some fun peppy songs like Brown Eyed Girl and Down by the Boardwalk. Then I know Ryan will want something with a beat, some rock and hip hop. And I already have requests for the group dance songs, especially the chaa chaa slide. I know my maid of honor will be wanting swing dance songs, and probably one charleston song. It's going to be ecclectic and AWESOME.

Haha.  I'm a nut, and I've told my FI that i will be walking down the aisle to Like a Virgin.  It's been a running joke with my group of friends since I was in high school.  I'm not doing it but I think it's funny to mess with him.

    Also,
    No Chicken Dance,
    No single ladies
    No celine dion.

Other than that, so far, I'm okay with anything.  It could be my mind is focused on other stuff right now, and I'll have a list a mile long when I start thinking of it.
