Does my entire wedding sound a little too out there?

I am going for pale gold and rustic red for colors. My dress and veil are very traditional, but I have some killer red high heels with " I do" painted on the bottom in gold. FI and I will match with me having a silver sash and a silver bow tie for him. The guys want black suits/tuxedos (haven't decided for sure yet) with gold ties. And I want knee length gold/champagne cocktail dresses for the girls (If I can ever convince them. Would these look weird? I want a little shine to them but more of a relaxed look. MOH thinks it would look weird with everything else.). They will be wearing some sort of plain black heels.

The bridesmaids are carrying brown and rust colored lanterns while I have a big bouquet of red and burnt orange dahlias and golden tipped roses. I think we agreed on some sort of large red flower and small berries with gold ribbon for the men's bouts.

Flower girl in a cute princess-like dress and ring bearer in a sweater vest and nice pants. (It will be almost Christmas and finding a suit for him was making me crazy.) The flower girl's basket it an old white basket with some gold painted on the sides and some small red ribbons. It looks very rustic. The ring bearers pillow was my mom's wedding hat that I added some decoration to, again looks very old and delicate. Oh yeah, my ring is an odd shape and FI's is an odd color.

Church decorations will include lots of candles, brass candelabras, maybe some small flowers along the aisle and a mixture of champagne rose petals and fall leaves along the aisle. I am thinking of walking down the aisle to either an instrumental version of "I've Had the Time of My Life", "Last Kiss" by Taylor Swift (I just like the music.), or "Turn to Stone" by Ingrid Michaelson.

The reception is going to be more of a party with the same color scheme. Champagne colored hydrangas and red roses for some centerpieces with red floating candles and more gold tone flower petals for others. I have a major candle addiction. Our plates are gold, napkins red, and glasses are clear glass, except our toasting flutes which have some red. We are having tacos and junk food for our dinner and a small cake. The music will be mostly things that reflect our tastes more than just wedding music. We are walking in to a song from Star Wars and our first dance will probably be country.

The rest is still being decided.

  • Hmmm... Mixing gold, red AND silver...? Red and orange flowers? Golden BMs dresses + rust/brown? Risky. I read the whole post very carefully while picturing what you describe and it would be WAY too much for me. Since it's going to be nearly Christmas, why won't you stick to gold (for details!), red and white? Champagne dresses would be ok, but make sure it's a really delicate colour. Are you 100% on the brown/rust lanterns?

Also - red heels - yummy!

  • I agree with PP, I don't think the wedding sounds too 'out there' I just think you might have too many colours going on all at the same time.

For the record, I'm a red heels bride so I'm a little partial to that one ;) lol
  • I think it sounds very pretty, just maybe too many colors like the others have said. I'd just stick to pale gold and rustic red, with some champagne. The silver and brown seem like too much.
Those red heels sound rad. I love me some red heels.
  • Reading this now, when I'm not so tired, I realized some of my descriptions did not make sense. The silver matching FI and I is actually platinum, almost white. My sash did not come in the other colors and I fell in love with the pattern on it after I'd already decided on the main color scheme and started ordering things. He wants to match me so we decided we would go as pale as possible so it would not be over the top.

Also, the burnt orange in the dahlias is just little flecks. I haven't entirely decided if I want to paint the lanterns or not. They are these amazing vintage things that we found a t a local store. A lot of the other decorations are more vintage and so is the church. It will still be close to Christmas but more so to Thanksgiving, so not enough for us to go over the top with red and white. Plus I love the look of gold and champagne.

Sorry, I wrote the post when I was tired and in a bad mood thanks to MOH thinking it was her wedding. Hopefully this clarifies things.

Oooh I SO understand you on this one - my MOH is the same. I even had to fight for my hen do not being turned into HER dream hen do. And she insists on trying my dress on, getting similar one for herself, etc etc.
