is this impossible??

Im new to the boards, newly engaged and ready to jump in to planning. We have a very very tight budget. Any one think Im trying to accomplish the impossible of 175 guest wedding  (estimated) for between $12,000-15,000.

Im starting to think I may be reaching.

Don't give up hope so easy! I haven't even started officially planning, but I've found lots of ways to cut costs.

One thing that I've done - since I'm a part-time photographer is trading my services for something wedding related. Like recently I just trading wedding photo service for a totally free wedding cake!

Also look for clearance deals. Target right now is having a lot of clearance on their wedding invitations.

Completely possible.  My wedding was originally for 150 (but I whittled it down to 110) and at the 150 guuests I was able to keep my wedding around $10,000.  I did a lot of DIY (Do it yourself) and shopped around a lot for the lowest cost on the cake, etc.

I did all the paper items myself except the STDs (Save the Dates).  That saved me a ton.  I got my invites from Target on clearance and printed out the wording on them .  They were already decorated so all it needed was words.

I did my own favors, place cards, and seating chart.

I did the flowers myself by going to the Flower District in LA.  I saved thousand.

I also shiopped around for the cheapest priced cake (that was yummy of course).

Also, I kept my mind open about what I wanted.  I ddi lots of research and if there was something I wanted but couldn't afford (flowers for exampel) I worked around it and did it myself rather than hire someone.

I have some of the stuff in my planning bio link below.

I think that it is possible, you just need to do your research and DIY.

That's cool! Yeah, I was trying to think of ways to cut costs and the cake situation just kind of fell in my lap. :) My man is a finish carpenter too, so I might encourage him to maybe try trading crown moulding work or baseboard work in exchange for wedding related stuff. hehe

what kind of wedding are you wanting? indoor?outdoor? location? theme? im pretty sure you can pull it off.
my original budget was 10,000.00 too but when we started looking at everything i knew what i wanted and realized what i wanted would not fall in the 10,000.00 catagory, beside im so not diy and im all about convenience so if i have to pay a little more for delivery and set up i was okay with that. besides i knew this would be my only wedding and i want it how i want it and if that meant being completely broke for a year so be it...lol...you will be suprised how money comes up out of no where too.

ours is about 15,000-18,000 range for 200 people But Im pretty sure we will come in below that... We're also having our close family  instead of gifts like a toaster or china set help us our with the cake or DJ... We didnt ask them of course, they offered! :)  and since we have a long ways to go we're also doing A LOT of research before putting down payments or purchasing anything... I saw a lot of cute invitations at Target and Michaels...

BUT wasn't sure how much the total is once you've printed our 100 invites?!? Anyone know? My printer drinks the ink as if it's happy hour or something... It is ridiculous... so diy invites for me wouldn't work :(

Oh and if you sign p for michaels they send send you 50% off coupons which is great!

Im looking to have an outdoor wedding/reception if possible. The problem that Im finding is that most place want  you to use their catering....I have a wonderful little place that is gonna cater if I can find a decent venue. My DJ is free, and I plan on doing DIY for all things paper. Favors are already decided. Flowers may be I will probably be DIYing too....I have an idea for those. I was so excited now Im worried! Trying to stay away from the $15,000 mark.
    Thanks for all the responses!

out doors wedding that will let you use your own caterer??? let me think???? maybe kimberly crest? im not positive. were getting married at a winery and they have there own chefs, i wasn't to worried about having someone else come in anyways... or maybe ask the caterer where they have worked at before. that might give you some ideas.

Found the place! Edward Dean Museaum and Gardens. I knew of the place but did not think that they could accomodate my 200 people guest list. Turns out I didnt think outside the box enough ;) They have an area that has a small gazebo in the corner....its big but I thought is was a ceremony only place. Nope Coordinator says she does outdoor receptions there too! We are having our ceremony at the bigger gazebo so it works out great! Cheaper too! Yeah!
