Thank you cards

How are you planning on doing them?

I wanted to use a photo from our wedding, possibly with a "Thank You!" banner. I am worried that it will take too long to get the cards out. You have to wait for your pictures to come back, then you have to wait for the cards to be printed and shipped, then you have to fill them out and send them. We are waiting a couple weeks to go on our HM and I wanted to get them done before we leave.

I guess we could use generic thank you cards and write in them, and just put a picture from our wedding inside. That way I can get them all filled out shortly after the wedding and just print the pictures at Walgreens when I get our photos back. Maybe we could use a sneak peek photo?

We could also us an engagement picture.

Re: Thank you cards

  • When we got a few presents at our e-party, I just bought a giant pack of 50 generic TY cards. I figured it's the heartfelt message that counts, rather than something fancier/more expensive. Plus this way I can send out cards for any gifts that arrive before the wedding as I get them.

  • I think it's a waste to do personalized thank you cards. Also you're right you won't get them in time. I'm just gonna pick up some nice looking ones from target or hobby lobby
  • What about doing the 100 free postcards from VP, writing on the back and mailing them in an envelope? It is $7 for shipping.

This is what I made really quick and I like it. (FI says he is too fat. He has lost weight since then, but I just love the old house and field.)

We got a thank you card over the summer from a wedding we went to. They did a shutterfly photo card and wrote on the back. I did NOT like it. They weren't professional photos and it just looked half a** on the back of a photo card and the paper marks. I still say do a traditional thank you card without a photo
  • I think we're just going to make some nice ones on vistaprint sans the wedding pictures, so we can work on them during our flight to our honeymoon. I think getting the thank you cards out quickly as possibly will be less painful if than if you were to wait after the honeymoon because I think you'll be so busy trying to catch up with work and other things.
  • If you do want a wedding picture in the Thank You card, couldn't you have someone take a picture of the two of you holding a thank you banner at the wedding with a digital camera? Then you to could upload to Walgreens or any card website and use the picture.
  • I purchased generic ones from Target for pre-wedding thank-yous, but I don't know what we're going to do for the actual wedding ones yet.  I think your postcard idea is really cute, and it's a lovely picture, though :)

Honestly, I feel that in this day and age the important thing is just that you make sure you send a thank you card to begin with; what your cards look like isn't worth stressing out about as long as you're not throwing it together on a piece of notebook paper and sending them out!  I love MrsPatnou's suggestion of asking someone to take a "regular" digital photo at the wedding you can use, especially if you're prepared with a backup plan (an e-pic or no photo) in case there aren't any that come out nice enough.

  • I will probably just purchase generic ones for the bridal shower but for the wedding I plan on doing wedding photo's ones... I've already made my "Thank You" sign for the pictures! =)
  • I'm just going to get generic ones from somewhere for the prewedding stuff and make some with a monogram or something for the wedding thank yous.

I agree with Abbe with her second paragraph.

  • Depending on how fast we can get our photos from our photographer we would really like to do a thank you post card. For the picture, we are going to hold the same white signs we did for the save the dates, but we will have our photographer write thank you on them instead.

  • I ordered some from Wedding Paper Divas along with my invitations/response cards, etc. so they match that theme.

I'll probably be buying some generic ones for our showers.

My cousin did personalized ones with a pic from the wedding. They turned out really nice! However they did take a long time (though I'm not sure how much of it was process as opposed to THEM...we got the invite like 2.5 weeks before the wedding!). People were kind of ticked they took so long.

Like PP said, I think it's the message that counts.

  • I'm probably ordering some to match our invites on Mixbook or VP.  I have already ordered some random custom ones on VP when I had groupon that was expiring and I didnt know what to get.
I dont think its critical that they match or are custom.
The thank you picture ideas is really cute, I thought about doing it too, but had the same concern about how long they would take.

  • we ordered our Thank You cards when we ordered all our invites and such. On the back it has our picture - it's not a wedding portrait of course but it is a cute picture. We are very happy with it.

  • We ordered 500 Thank you postcards from 123print in our stationary.  The thank you cards were expensive so I decided to use the postcard and have Thank You printed on the top.  I will use these for the shower as well as the wedding.  The postage will also be cheaper.  My mom also suggested when I was ordering not to put anything about or wedding on there so that I could use them for other things.
  • We're ordering cards to match our stationary. I don't want to have to deal with more ordering and such after the wedding - I feel like I will probably be OVER all of that and just want to relax!
