How much is your DJ?

Just curious about how much people are spending on their DJ for the big day. I have started looking into it and am surprised at how much of a price difference there can be! Any recommendations of who we should go with? How early should we book? Thanks!

We paid $350 for our dj. He was great at our wedding and I have always heard good things about him from others. Neon Express.

We contacted him about 1 year and 6 months from our wedding, we just wanted all the big vendors figured out first.

Ours was $300. He is a family friend that is an oldies DJ (but he will also be playing more recent stuff too). Let me know if you want his contact info.

We also went with Neon Express and are paying $350. We booked 11 months out, I wanted to get all the vendors done with right away.

$495 for a Friday 6-hr gig with Midwest Sound & Light
We booked them just 4 1/2 months before our wedding, but our whole engagement period will be just 9 months from proposal to wedding. :)

We're also using Neon Express and only paying $250 for their smaller system since our reception hall/guest count isn't very big.

Ugh. We were going to be using a relative of one of our groomsmen for $600, but he recently moved out of state. That left us looking for a dj last minute, so we're paying about $1100, but that is including a generous mandatory gratuity and tax also I think. Still makes me sick thinking about it. In other words, book early!!!

about 450 I think with Midwest Sound and Lights.  I hadn't researched much at that point, it was the company all of my friends used so it seemed like a simple choice.  We booked it over a year before our wedding.

Ours seems to be a little on the higher side.  We're paying $600.  No hour limit on it but they will be playing for around 5 hours.  Gosh that seems high now that I look at it.

Kelly, I don't think your dj is too high. Neon Express is very inexpensive but everyone that I know (not from the boards) has paid around $1200 for their dj!
