Travel Agents

Hi,Does anyone know a reputable travel agent for vacations overseas? Do you think it is just cheaper to do it myself on lets say expedia?

We worked with a travel agent who creates trips exclusively for NZ - we could have created the same itinerary for maybe a few hundred dollars less, but FI felt it was worth a little bit more to have her reserve rooms for us at the inns he wanted to visit and take care of all of the fees for car rentals and experiences that we're going to do over there. This way we just show up, get handed our keys/tickets/etc., and go about our business, and our only out of pocket expenses once we're there are food and souvenirs. I can't recommend a specific TA (unless you want to go to NZ, of course!) but I think if you find a good one, it's probably worthwhile for the reduced hassle.

I love our travel agent.  He works with AMEX, but you don't need to a cardmember to use him.  His name is Tom (he goes by "Travel Tom") and his email is traveltom@gmail.com.  He helped my FSIL last year with her honeymoon. She was going to Mexico until a week before her wedding when the swine flu epidemic broke, and he was able to rebook her to St. Lucia -- and she got money back because it was cheaper!

We used him to book our honeymoon to French Polynessia (Tahiti, Bora Bora, Moorea and Tahaa).  He has traveled extensively and is really good at his job.

I did not aks him about other locations, but given that he helped my FSIL with trips to Mexico and Caribbean and he helped us with French Polynesia, I am pretty certain he books travel to anywhere.
