We have been together for so long and I am so happy to finally have a ring! I just want to get married right away. How long are you guys waiting or how long did you wait to start planning?

    Congratulations!

    We wanted to have a long engagement for a couple of reasons. The first reason was that we always thought that having at least a year engagement was healthy, especially because that we are still young. The second reason is because we want to wait until we graduate school to get married. The third reason was because we wanted to have enough time to save a good chunk of money, otherwise there would be no wedding lol. 

    Even though we have awhile to go until the wedding, we basically started planning right away. About a month after we got engaged, we started looking at venues. We looked at about 20 or so online, visited 4 and around 2 months after we got engaged we booked our venue. We wanted to make sure that we got the date that we wanted because they were already booking for 2013. 

    This timeline is perfect for us but every couple is different.

    Thank you. And that does sound like a good idea to start looking around now. We haven't really set a date yet. We both have the same basic idea of what we want to happen. Thank you for giving me your stories because I am completely lost and I dont know where to even begin. But now that I read this I can tell him what other couples are doing.

    We were together 4 1/2 years before he proposed but we are waiting about a year and a half before we get married. That's mostly because I wanted to get married next august but with my parents paying for the wedding I felt bad that it was prime time wedding season and I didn't think i was going to get the places I wanted either.  And I refuse having a winter wedding (even though I live in Michigan) we both do not really like the winter, so we are going with April 2013! Have our ceremony site and the reception place, my colors and thats about it!

    I also live in Michigan ! We also decided to not have a winter wedding. We actually decided a few days ago to have it in July because we both have 2 weeks off then for work. So now that leaves me 7 months to get everything together!
