Carnations anyone??

Hi all! This is my first post... brand new knottie here :).

My fiance and I are on a serious budget and considering carnations for our centerpieces. I've seen some beautiful ones in pictures but was wondering if anyone has actually seen nice carnation centerpieces or actually plans on using them for their wedding as well... Also, any suggestions for budget friendly flowers and/or centerpieces is greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Welcome! We are doing floating rose petals for our center pieces. Its super cheap just put water in a glass bowl and drop the petals in. We also considered doing floating candles around the petals.

Welcome and congrats!! :) Rock the carnations, if you love 'em! I love the look of carnations bunched together, I may or may not do them myself...I still have to visit my florist. They look very elegant bunched together and they also make great fillers in centerpieces.

Thanks for the tip, RU3234. We are also considering the floating candles. The rose petals sound like a nice touch!

Natalie97, those are the pics I was referring to! I love how they looke bunched up together. I think when most people think of carnations they think "cheap" but I honestly think they make for very beautiful and budget friendly centerpieces. They were not my first pick but after doing my research I'm definitely leaning towards them. I haven't even picked a florist yet so we'll see! Thanks for the pics! :)

I'm meeting with a Publix florist on Saturday (a hint that my wedding is on a budget too) and plan to suggest carnations or chrysanthemums (fall wedding), along with a few lilies.  I think you will be able to have gorgeous centerpieces with carnations.  Another tip:  You can get vases for $1 each from Dollar Tree (order online, no charge for shipping, pick them up at your local store).  You do have to buy a dozen though.  Good luck!!

Kendra2727, my fiance is a manager for Publix... Why didn't I think of that?? LOL Please keep me posted on how your meeting goes. I didn't even know they did weddings. Thanks for the tip on the vases. I'm definitely going to look into that. A dozen would be perfect since I'm having anywhere between 100 - 125 guests.

Carnation pomanders look gorgeous.  They look like they were made of tissue paper.  I've seen centerpieces where pomanders of various sizes and colors were propped up on candleholders

Publix does wedding cakes too!  I know some people on here have said that the prices Publix quoted were similar to the ones they got at other bakeries, but if your fiance works there, maybe you can get a special rate?

Also, there is nothing better in the world than Publix cake ... mmmm....

The carnation pomanders sound like a great idea!! I'm going to use seasonal flowers only to cut down on the cost, and would definitely consider using carnations as fillers. I like the look of those kinds of flowers, and if they're used together with roses, rununculus, peonies, I think they would look great.

I used some carnations as fillers in my centerpieces - it really helped with my budget.  I think the carnation pompadors are beautiful and much more durable then those made from more delicate flowers! GL

I actually really like the above picture, and might incorporate tiny carnation pomanders into the manzanite display I was planning on for the escort card table.

Not sure if you seen this article yet but here are some ideas with carnations:

My only suggestion is...do not get them colored....my bff had bouquets of carnations at her wedding and I am sure they would have looked really nice except the florist (who i would NEVER recommend) convinced her that she could color them and they would look good....um no! It was horrible...lol...
