UMBC Strings

Can any of you girls provide me with the information regarding hiring UMBC students to play at our wedding?

Or any other budget friendly options?

Soem of the ones we have looked at were quite high! I would like someone though with the ability to play more modern musiic aswell, since we will be using the string insturments for teh cocktail hour as well.

Who have you tried already?  I have a few names recommended from Peabody, but haven't called them yet, and actually don't even know what a good price would be!

I am on my work computer so I dont have the names  of the ensembles but the 2-3 I got quotes from it would be about $600-$800 for 1.5 - 2 hours (as guests arrive, ceremony, and cocktail hour).

It may not be high - but it seems like a lot to me!

I'm in the same boat, it seems high to me as well! I am looking at just cellists, hoping to cut down on some of the cost by not having an entire ensemble.  I will let you know what those prices are when I start contacting them tomorrow!

You might want to try posting this on The Nest.  I think one or two of the girls over there used UMBC strings

I don't know if this is any better, but we're using Music Unlimited for our musicians and we're paying $500 for 2 hours.  We're getting a guitar/flute duo for the ceremony, and then the guitar is switching to saxophone for the cocktail hour and playing more jazz-type stuff.  It's a lot cheaper than any of the quotes I got from gigmasters, anyway.
