Extremely small bridesmaid doesn't fit in any dresses

Hey all!

I have 7 bridesmaids in my wedding of all various shapes and sizes. However my 15 year old future sister-in-law is extremely tiny (about size 10-12 girls) so she does not fit in even the smallest bridesmaids dresses. I don't want her to be a flower girl and I am trying not to spend a ton of money buying a dress and then having it altered to fit her. She is feeling really self conscious about being the only girl who doesn't match so I'm trying to figure out what to do.

I have looked at Davids's Bridal and Alfred Angelo to see if there are any matching junior bridesmaids dresses and regular bridesmaids dresses. I have only found one but it was floor length when I want knee length.

If you all have ANY ideas about what I could do or where to look, please let me know.

Can the floor length junior bridesmaid be altered to knee length?? That shouldnt be too expensive of an alteration. I dont know too much else about where else to go besides checking out local bridal stores...

Good Lord, don't make a 15 year old the flower girl. Get the smallest dress you can and then find a good seamstress to alter it. Whatever it costs you is going to be less expensive than having your FSIL feel even more awkward than she probably already does.

My sister used to be tiny. She had every formal dance dress altered all through high-school. Try the local yellow pages for a seamstress not associated with a bridal store. You'll likely save money (and while a bridal gown can be a complicated beast and require special skills, many BM dresses are no more complicated than prom dresses.)

Have you picked "the" BM dress yet? If not, consider setting some criteria and letting your BMs pick their own dresses. Everyone gets a dress that flatters their varied figures, and your littlest BM doesn't have to be embarassed because no-one is perfectly matching.

Also, there are a lot of Alfred Angelo bridesmaid dresses available in junior sizes. They're not listed separately - look at the individual dress discription to see what sizes they come in. I'd say more of them are available in junior sizes than not, and certainly plenty of short ones.

You should ask the seamstress if she can make it knee length and how much it will cost. There are no dresses in the girls department that match?

Look into recruiting your local college or university that has a fashion/costume program. Ask if any of the students can replicate the BM dress or if they can alter an existing one for extra credit. Many seamstresses not affiliated with any salons are hungry for work, so they're usually pretty reasonable.

The OP was never going to make her FSIL be the flower girl, that's why she's asking for advice on how to get a BM dress for her.

My daughter was a bridesmaid when she was 9. She is still a small girl, but she was tiny then. We bought the smallest size and had it altered down. It really didn't cost that much, and fit her perfectly. A lot of it was taking up the shoulder straps and adjusting the bustline. I'd ask about alterations and what would be necessary for a certain style. I think we only paid about 30dollars for alterations at a local shop.

I would also say to start researching local seamstresses. There are many women who run their own little businesses out of their homes who can give you great personal attention and save you money-- one of my BMs used such a woman for her dress. It isn't too complicated to take dresses in. I know a woman who had her wedding gown taken in probably 6 sizes. If she can do that to her wedding dress and still have it look great, then I bet you can do the same with a simple BM gown.

One of my bridesmaids had the same problem at a wedding she was in last year. She's so tiny that she put on one of the colored flower girl dresses as a joke and it fit so well that the rest of the bridesmaids wanted to get it, until they realized what it actually was. She ended up having to take apart the dress that they decided on and restructuring it so it fit. It might be her only option if you want them all to be in the same dress. Like pp said, a good seamstress can do it. Another option is allowing all of the BMs to wear diferent dresses and dictating things like color, length, fabric, etc, which would make it easier to find her a dress that fits(if that's a look you like).

I know Jordan has some jr BM dresses that match the BM dresses. I only know because my cousin had a couple of jr BMs and their dresses were the same! Hers were floor length though, but I'd imagine some shorter ones match as well.

Another PP mentioned it, but are you set on them having the exact same dress? What about choosing a color and letting them choose their own? That way she wouldn't have to worry about matching perfectly, and could just select a jr BM dress in the same color. If that's not an option, and you can't find any jr BM dresses to match the BM that you like, I think altering down the smallest BM dress is going to be about your only choice.

Alfred Angelo has a bunch of knee length that come in both JBM and BM sizes. What specifics are you looking for other than knee length? (Cut, straps/no straps, etc)
