Are you staying in budget?

How are you ladies doing at staying within your budget??  I have noticed that I'm having a lot of trouble staying in budget with several things, particularly flowers and dress.  I'm one of those "champagne taste with beer budget" kinda gals!  I have a budget set up in wedding wire, but when I see things I LOVE it's usually out of budget.  What are some tips you may have to stay in budget or are you going over too?

I am trying my hardest to stay within budget. So far I have cut the open bar down. I am doing alot of diy projects that is worth time and using coupons im not using real flowers except for my bouqet and FI bout. BP will have silks and im diy them. So you just have to see whats important and whats second inportant. If diy is worth it or having someone else make it for you for exp. Centerpieces. Its worth me to diy then pay someone to make them ...just things like that..hth

  • We are staing in budget after upping it a little. We knew our costs would be high but we decided ahead of time what we would splurge on and what we would do our best to "discount." We should be able to borrow most if not all of our tables from the local community center, we are buying plates and silverware at auctions cheaper than we can rent, and we are growing all of our centerpieces so no florist budget.
Guests are going to remember their overall experience, and necessecarily the actual details so thats why we are splurging on food and entertainment. And my dress lol

  • ahahaha HELL NO ... I had to increase have no idea how we did it but we did and now were within the new budget but not our original lol

  • Some things came in under, some over.  Overall, I had left some cushion room, which we're going to need.

  • We're doing good. Our venue is good. Includes the food, cake, and chocolate bar for a good price. I just have to rent chair covers and sashes. I'm DIY'ng my centerpieces, bouquets, everything. No Florist. That's saving me alot of money. Buying my flowers in bulk from Costco. Getting my centerpiece supplies from Amazon. Instead of getting my invitations done thru like vistaprint or davids bridal or wherever, I got mine from Etsy from a seller that sends you a PDF file of your STDs and Invites, and I'm printing them myself. Making my own programs and menus. Its pretty much completely a DIY wedding. I also saved on my dress, cuz my FMIL bought it for me. Laughing I love her.

  • We never really set an official number for a "budget," but instead went through and figured out how much we'd be willing to spend on each element. So far, we're under on venue, even on DJ and photographer, and slightly over on my dress. We will probably end up going under on cake/desserts but will go over on transportation, flowers, and centerpieces. Some things, like the open bar tab, we won't know if we're over or under until the wedding itself.
  • Thanks for sharing everyone, glad to see I'm not alone (for those of you who had to increase yours!!)!  I had no idea how much stuff cost until I'm in the midst of plannong!

  • We are under budget right now because my mom offered some money since she decided last minute that she wanted to invite 8 more people to the wedding. I was also able to find cheaper BM's gifts and toasting flutes than expected. We also came under for the honeymoon and for the photographer. But we don't have "tons" of cushion room right now but we do have some.

  • So far we're under budget actually, hope it stays that way! I'm a hardcore bargain hunter, but of course will spend money where necessary, like food and photography.

  • We're in a bit over budget, but not huge. The biggest one was the reception venue. There was one option that would allow us to stay within our budget but required more from us in the way of set up and tear down and FI said that it was worth it, to him, to pay extra and not have to worry about that on our wedding day.

My budget is really tight, so there is virtually no wiggle room. A little here and a little there is really making it hard. Its taking small miracles like getting my officiant for free, that is keeping us from being majorly over.

<div>We're kind of like this. My parents told me how much they would contribute. I made a spreadsheet with all estimated costs and sent it off to his parents. They were good with it and I've been able to stay pretty close to the estimates. It'd almost be easier to have an actual number budget!</div>
