Do I need one of these?

My mom keeps pushing me to register for a hand mixer. Should I? My fiance and I cook, bake and entertain a lot. I would probably use it I guess...we already have a KitchenAid though, so I don't know. Any thoughts?

Re: Do I need one of these?

  • If you have a KitchenAid I wouldn't think you need a hand mixer.
Whoever said it was supposed to be happily ever after is a big fat liar.

[QUOTE]I have both, and use the hand mixer for small, quick jobs, like whipping cream.  I got the el cheapo Hamilton Beach, and it's going strong after fifteen years.  Yeah, I think it's a good idea.

I already had a stand mixer, got a hand mixer for small things like mashing potatos and stuff (which I don't do, really, I've never liked them...it's a texture thing).  I wouldn't register for one of the expensive ones, though.  I think $50 is a bit much for a hand mixer.

FWIW, my mom got a hand mixer for her shower 33 years ago.  She uses it often.  STILL works like a charm (albeit the UGLY 70's pea green/mustard yellow combo)

<div>This.  I also have both and I prefer using the handmixer sometimes because it's one less bowl to clean. </div>

  • I would register for a cheap one.  As people mentioned it's easier to use for small and quick jobs.

I have both and I agree with everyone else.  My hand mixer also came with a sifter attachment, it's amazing if you like baking a lot.
  • I bake and cook alot as well and I have both. Like others have said the hand mixer is great for small jobs or even bigger jobs when the stand mixers bowl is too small. I would recommend registering for one but it doesnt need to be very expensive.
