When to send invites?

I am getting married August 18th. I thought the invites needed mailed 3 months in advance, but I also have seen 2 month as the time to send them. Now I am confused. When should they be sent?

    6-8 weeks in advance is typical, although we're going with 8-10 weeks because it's an OOT wedding for half the guest list and we didn't send STDs.  Ask for RSVPs back 1-2 weeks before your venue needs a head count.

    I think 8-10 weeks is the best timeline. 6 weeks seems way too close, personally, and 12 weeks is too far out. Our wedding is local, and we sent invites at 10 weeks. 

    Just make sure the RSVP is not due back any earlier than 4 weeks before the wedding, at most. 2-4 is standard for that.

    We're sending them 8 weeks before. Too much earlier and people simply don't know their plans yet.

    And make your RSVP deadline about 7-10 days before your venue needs the final count so that you'll have time to call any stragglers.
