October 2013 Weddings

To Do

Hey Ladies- So I just called to put a block on the last hotel in my hometown, we are trying to provide our guests with a variety and they only have 5 rooms available and they can't block them.  I'm not worried cause I already blocked enough rooms at the other 3 hotels, but wanted to give you ladies a heads up to obviously not wait on blocking rooms at hotels for your guests.  Who woud have thought that October 2013 would be such a high demand month.

Re: To Do

  • I have been trying to call around. So far I only could block one hotel. I am still trying to get a hold of another. Our situation sucks because some hotels will only give me rates for rooms with the Packers having a home game and will not block until April when the schedule comes out.

  • man, this is so not helping with my feeling of already being behind the eight ball lol

thanks for the heads up though, will start looking at blocking rooms soonest!

  • That sucks

This is something I actually don't have to worry about at all - we have no out of town guests! Or, I should say, the guests that will be coming from out of town can make arrangements with other family in the area (and do so when the visit for other times). There is a hotel next to our venue and I've included that information on our wedding site, but I am not setting aside a block or worrying about it. I would be VERY surprised if they had say, 2 rooms booked of guests from our wedding!

  • Every single hotel I've called except one will not block until the stupid football schedule. GRRR

  • How many rooms do you need to justify blocking them off?  I doubt we will need more than 5 rooms!

  • I agree- this is probably stressing me out most of all the other stuff I need to do.

The hotel closest to the venue is pretty expensive (over 200/n) because of the month. So a lot of people I though would want a room are saying that's too much for them. So I was only going to block 5 there and maybe 5 at a cheaper place. Which still seems small to me. I just can't decide for other people what they might want to do.

How did you all decide how many rooms to book? Should I just ask everyone?

  • Okay, so all of my family (literally, every single family member) is OOT. They majority of my guests are OOT - it's how it would be no matter where we got married - and some of his are OOT too. Based on my count, we should be expecting roughly 40 or 41 rooms will be occupied by our guests. Should I spilt the rooms up between a couple of hotels, or go with just one... or what? I think my mom is set on renting a house for the week, so that might eliminate 2 of those rooms (for my parents & for my sister/MOH & her bf). But that's still 39/40 rooms!

I'm fairly useless with this... Do you know if any hotels offer discounted rates if I book an absurd number of rooms at the same hotel? (I'm talking 20+ rooms)
  • I think also you haveto ask the hotels- what happens if theydo not all get booked? And when do they re-open those room for other people? You may need a more accurate count if they will charge you for unrented rooms.

I would say most hotels offer discouts for large bookings.

I am thinking of doing two hotels- one within walking distance but more expensive and one they would have to drive to but cheaper. Although I do have some people renting houses/staying with us, etc. So I am having a hard tme figuring out how many rooms to block.

  • Hotels don't typically charge you if you don't use the rooms, they simply release the blocked rooms that were not booked a month from the hold date, at least that's what ours did.  I leaned on the safer than not and blocked as many rooms as we could, 20 at two hotels and the 15 at the 3rd.  We tried to give our guests a variety of prices, and options, suites and single rooms.
  • The hotel I booked so far is blocking 10 rooms to start. If we get 8 rooms booked, they will block another 10. If they aren't used, we don't have to pay anything for them. All rooms have to be booked by Sept. 14 and the ones that aren't get taken out of the block.

  • Wow Stina, that's a great way to do it! Start low and increase as needed. I will see if my hotel will do that.
