We have settled on the Kennebec River (The Forks) area. Any recommendations on vendors?

We just decided we are going with the Kennebec River area. We LOVE camping, and white water kayaking, and most of our guests are "outdoorsy". We are looking at June. Does anybody have any recommendations on venues for an outdoor wedding? What about caterers? We would love to do something like a BBQ, Pig Roast, or a Clam Bake. We are not from the area so I'm not sure how far is to far to travel for alot of caterers... I'll have to make some calls!

Your closest town with all amenities (spelling?) is Skowhegan.  Bingham and Solon are right there, but only really contain are ma' n pa' grocery store and gas station(s).  Crabapple is a great rafting company that may be able to host your event i.e. food/places to stay/raft.  I would check their website.  However, there are really no caterers in these immediate areas that I know of, and anyone from out of town is going to charge some hefty fees to travel/setup.  The Forks is a great idea for a wedding, I questioned it for our venue too.  I only worried about food, lodging for us/guests, having to rent tents, tables, chairs, all flatware and service ware ect.   Keep in mind June is a crazy-busy time for the Forks as this is their high season, so definelty start thinking about where to have it, when and book it.
I will say though there is nothing but prime photo oppertunities for your wedding there.  I suggest a hike into moxie falls (maybe a mile) with a trash-the-dress photo shoot :)  Good luck :)

Congratulations on your engagement! I grew up nearish The Forks in a town called Haarmony, Maine. I'm a wedding photographer located in Southern NH, but I do travel all over the state, so if you are looking for a photographer, I would love to chat with you! My website is www.andrewdavisweddings.com

I don't know much about venues or caterers up that way, but I would be happy to do some research for you-I'm always looking to grow my list of great vendors to refer to couples :)
