Brother of Honor?

I love my little brother dearly.  I would love it if he stood up for me as my "Man of Honor".  Although I have girlfriends including my best friend that I have known for over half my life and am very close with, I would really love it if he was the one who was up there with me.

Now I know what the general concensious of The Knot is.  "It's your wedding, you should do what you think is right."  But, honestly and truely, would you guys think it's weird?  Just looking for your thoughts.  Thanks guys.

Re: Brother of Honor?

  • I would think it was unique, but in a good way. If he is your nearest and dearest, then ask him. Who cares what other people think about this? This is completely 100% your decision and you should not care about the opinions of others on this. Your WP choices in no way shape or form affect the comfort or needs of your guests, and those are the things you should worry about what people will think/say.

Worst case scenario? I see some people, perhaps older guests or those who are more in the "traditional" camp, talking about how you have a man on your side. Some people just like to gossip. They probably won't say anything to you, and if they do? Tell them to shove it (nicely) because your brother is your nearest and dearest and you wanted him at your side. Don't let anyone make you feel sorry about this if this is what YOU want to do.

  • Nope. If these are the people you are closest to, this wedding party is wonderful. Stick with what you have.
  • I'm doing it.  And my fiance is having his sisters stand up for him.  So no, I wouldn't think it was weird.  :)
  • I don't think it would look weird!  My first reaction would be "that is so sweet".  I wanted my brother to stand by my side but DH insisted that he stand by his side...I wasn't going to argue with the 2 of them being close.
