Travel Poll

Have you made any travel plans for 2010 as yet? If so, where do you think you'll be going?

Re: Travel Poll

  • I'm going to Sweden for two weeks, beginning Jan 5.  We're also thinking of going to Scotland, France, Denmark and back to the US at some point.
  • Yep. Halifax in May, UK in June if we can swing it and Greece in early September and possibly somewhere undecided in April.

  • Cruise in March for our honeymoon!

Also, I think we're going to go to my Homecoming in Boston next year and spend a week with my relatives on the east coast (over Thanksgiving).  FI's never visited Harvard with me, so I'm excited.

It looks like two of my girlfriends might get engaged over the holidays so there may be some Fall 2010 weddings as well!
  • I know of 3 places already:

Houston in April for a conference
Buffalo in May for my high school reunion
New Hampshire in June for FI's college reunion

Then we'll do a small trip after the wedding.

Not leaving the US this year. Have a wedding to pay for. That will wait for 2011.

All of your plans sound quite fantastic!

We're going to Malaysia (KL and Penang) in April for a surprise trip for H's birthday, going to Melbourne and Hobart in July (have never been to Hobart before, and adore Melbourne, so should be fun), and hoping to go to back to Tokyo and then to Hawaii in September for our 1 year wedding anniversary. Fingers crossed on that!

We may also move to Germany at the end of next year for six months and spend christmas there etc- still undecided, though.
  • Undecided. We're trying to decide between Las Vegas, an island or a cruise.
  • I really want to go to Germany but that will have to wait until I get out of school.
    image
  • Cancun in Feb (of course) and LA during my spring break, probably more, but thats all we have scheduled right now. We're visiting my friend (MOH) in LA, she just moved out there and is already in an MTV show (not on air yet), Melrose Place, Heroes, and maybe House (I would LOVE that!). She met McLovin and um, "met" a band member of second hand serenade. Hopefully I will be drinking with some famous people on spring break!

  • We are hoping to go back to Wisconsin during the summer. Our friends are expecting their first child in May and we want to make the trip there to visit them. Other than that, we don't have anything else planned.

What part of Germany would it be, Sun? I went to Berlin last year and it was great, but I'd love to go to Munich. FI spent a trimester in Mainz when he was in college, about 15 years ago.

We randomly met some people from Munich in Scotland who said we should call them if we ever make it over there. Yeah, no. But it was a nice offer.

  • This is what we have so far:

Cruise in April for our honeymoon.
Barbados in May for our other honeymoon.
Orlando in May for Harry Potter Wold!
  • We're telling ourselves that we're going to Spain in September, but that could change up until the second I click "purchase" for the plane tickets.

We are definitely going to Maryland in March for my grandfather's 100th birthday party.

H wants to go back to Italy and I want to go back to Scotland so bad, but I suppose it'll have to wait. I don't have a ton of vacation time.
  • Ewww you could not pay be to go to Cancun during Spring Break. You are brave!

  • We'd love to go to Poland, because we are both mostly Polish, but that probably wont happen next year.

Sun - DH and I have an "Australia fund" going and if we save correctly, we'll get back there within the next 3 years. :) That'll be our big trip of the decade.

  • We're trying to plan a trip to Australia (I have friends getting married there in March; it would be an ideal time to go, to attend the wedding, then travel!).

I get up to Boston as many times a year as possible and while I never consider that vacation,  it is time spent with friends and complete relaxation...sounds like vacation! Shortly after the holidays I'll head up from NJ for a long weekend there.

Sometime during summer 2010, we'll likely spend a week in VA Beach.

  • I'm so jealous of you Sun, there are so many places I want to go, and even if we could afford them all, H can't get enough vacation time. Sooo, for our 1 year anniversary, we're going on a weekend trip somewhere close by, probably at one of the many lakes around here, and in August we're going (with my mom nonetheless) to San Antonio and Corpus Christi to visit my godmother and do all sorts of fun stuff including going to Schlitterbahn, shopping on the riverwalk, and shopping in Progresso, Mexico hoping not to get shot.

I actually am excited about the Texas trip, but man I would rather be in Hawaii. Or Germany. Or Belize, or Greece, or Italy, or all kinds of places.

  • I am leaving for Italy on New Years Eve and will return on the 11th.   We are not sure if we will do a honeymoon or not.  If we do it will prob be a cruise

Well, H's family live near Munich (actually just outside of Dachau) so we'd spend christmas there (Munich Christmas Markets!) and then likely move to Dusseldorf for work as that is where most of the english speaking IT work is located. We went to Dusseldorf, Munich and Berlin last year and adored them- Munich was my favourite, though, and H's family were all so sweet to us. We had so much fun.
  • In the spring, we're planning a pre-move trip to Austin to start informational interviews and looking at places to live.  Other than that, I don't think we're gonna have money for any other vacays this year.  We are spending a night at a hotel in the city in February as a treat and it's like 35 blocks from our apt.  Does that count?

Where in Australia do your friends live/are they getting married?

I have told H that I really want to have a Christmas in Germany before we have children... which doesn't give us much time given that we're thinking of trying in 2011, lol. Also, there's a job offer that is open to H next year which would be really fantastic... so, he's still considering if he wants to take it and we can live over there for 6 months.
  • Not sure if this counts (I'm certainly counting it though!), but we're getting married in St Thomas in March, and then going on an Alaskan cruise in July for the honeymoon.  There's also a long weekend in Delaware/Pennsylvania planned in Sept. for a wedding we're going to
  • We always do short trips to California, but a couple for sure.
A wedding we are both in, in Laguna in July
A wedding in Sarasota that can also include a 5 day Caribbean cruise the next day if we decide to go.  (A customer of my H that he befriended)
H cousin's wedding in Tahoe in August.
And maaaaaybe Thailand/Vietnam in December.  Our friends that are getting married in July want to honeymoon there and want us to come too.

I'm in Rosarito Mexico right now!

  • OK I'm inspired. I just booked a weekend away in January for us at a hotel we've stayed at before and loved. I'm going to try and see if I can keep it a secret from H as a surprise for Christmas, but we'll see. He's been dying to get a massage and this hotel has a spa so I'm going to book a couple's massage too.
  • Our honeymoon in Maldives in March is our only set plan.  We've discussed Denver to visit my sister who just moved there and New Orleans for Halloween.
  • So far, we;ve already bought our plane tickets and hotel for March Madness in vegas. We also want to do Italy this year.
