Father/Daughter & Mother/Son Dances

I don't know if it is waaaay too soon to think about these yet but I have a few questions...

Have any of you picked your father/daughter dance song?  Or are you letting your Dad pick??  Also, if you have sisters who are already married, are you using the same song??
I have 4 songs picked out for my Dad to choose from but want him to have a variety and not sure if these are enough:
"My LIttle Girl" - Tim Mcgraw
"Daddy's Little Angel" - Tcartermusic
"Cinderella" - Steven Curtis Chapman
"Daddy Dance With Me" - Chris Keith

Out of respect for my sister, I decided not to use either song she danced to with our Dad, although I love them.

My other questions are:
Are you having a mother/son dance for your FI?  My FI isn't that close to his mother, and he personally doesn't want to do the dance, but he also doesn't want to hurt his Mom's feelings by not having the dance.  I suggested he talk to his Mom to see if she wants to do the dance with him.

Also what songs would you use for a mother/son dance?  I am at a loss for these since I am a daughter not a son..  I could only think of "My Wish" by Rascal Flatts and "I Hope You Dance" by LeeAnn Womack

Re: Father/Daughter & Mother/Son Dances

  • I picked out ours. I am going to ask his mom to pick of theirs unless FI can think of something. I'd like it to be classic because all of our songs are from the past.
  • My dad and I are going to dance to 'a song for my daughter' by Ray Allaire(SP). I was between that song or Mark Wills' 'in my arms', but decided on the other for the dance and just gonna make sure the Mark Wills song willed be played since I love that song too! My FI is dancing with his mom, but he's picking that out himself. He was thinking of Boys II Men Mama song( some kind of name like that), but he wasn't 100% on that song.

  • Oh and I picked out a band that I knew would mean something to us both.
  • We are using Cinderella by Steven Curtis Chapman for the father/daughter dance. My dad and I talked about it and we both really loved that song.

We haven't chosen a mother/son song yet. But I am leaving that up to my FI and his mom to decide on. :)
  • We're using My Girl by The Temptations (which as always been 'our' song).  FI and his mom will pick out their song, I think he is considering How Sweet It is to Be Loved By You by James Taylor.

  • My dad and I will be dancing to Landslide by Fleetwood Mac. We are not 100% on the mother/son dance but we are thinking Forever Young by Rod Stewart. I forget what my sis danced with my dad to, but it wasnt a song I was into

  • My dad and I are dancing to "I Loved Her First" by Heartland.  My fiance chose the song "Simple Man" by Lynyrd Skynyrd to dance to with his mom.

I wanted that to be my song with my Dad!!  My sister and Dad danced to that song at her 2nd wedding, and I didn't want to take that song away from her.  I also want the song to be special to my Dad and I, which is the other reason I'm not using "I Loved Her First" or "Butterfly Kisses" (the song they danced to at her first wedding)!!

I hope that doesn't sound selfish or anything, I just would personally like to not share the song with my sister, if the situation was reversed and I had been the one to marry first I would potentially see it as my sister stealing the special song from me.

I think mine is gonna be "Ready, Set, Don't Go" by Billy Ray Cyrus. Not sure about mother/ son dance.

  • My song with my dad is When You Need Me by Bruce Springsteen. I picked it but he fully approved, our whole family loves Springsteen and that is one of the reasons I chose it.

FI is going to do a dance with his mom. They will choose it but I really hope they will consider Simple Man because I think it would be perfect for them.

My FI is not close to his mother, either. I have a feeling I will have to pick something for them or we just wont do it.
