Want to use hydrangeas but my florist won't let me

So, basically the title says everything.  My florist says that hydrangeas will wilt in my bridal boutique and that they are not good flowers to use because they need so much water.  I see so many pictures of brides and bridesmaids using them.  Do they really need that much water?

I don't know about the water situation b/c I don't know much about gardening and flowers.  However, hydrangeas were one of the first flowers my florist suggested for both mine and my bridesmaids bouquets. If you really want them, and you're paying for what you want, I wouldn't let her bully you into NOT having them.

that's really weird. i'm using hydrangeas though we're doing DIY. we visited our venue last weekend and they were setting up for a wedding and they were using hydrangeas as well. they are a good flower to use because they are so big so you'll need less flowers overall. find another florist.

I had hydrangeas, peonies, and tulips which are known to wilt easily.  My flowers held up for two full days, most of the time being out of water.  If that florist can't make the flowers last for a few hours then you need a new florist.

    ^^Ditto all the PP.
Someone told me that "hydrangea" translated to "water vessel" because they do require a lot of water, but I would assume that's for when you are planting them.

Ditch the wacky florist - they are probably telling you that so you will use more expensive flowers.

I'm using hydrangeas. I think it depends on the florist and if they truly know what they are doing. My florist mentioned she had learned what they needed to do w/hydrangeas and haven't had problems since. We're using them in both the bouquets and center pieces.

Find a new florist.  My cousin got married in July in Cincinnati when it was 98 degrees out.  His wife had only hydrangeas for everything and nothing wilted.

I would say, I want hydrangeas.  And if she says no, go for a new florist, as pp suggested.

I love hydrangeas, but they do need a lot of water, so I'd be leery if using them in  bouquets.  For vases/centerpieces they should be fine.

But plenty of brides use hydrangeas in bouquets with little or no problems.  If you really want them, find a florist who is more comfortable using them, and make sure they're the style bouquet where you can keep them in water until just before the ceremony.

If you want hydrangeas and your florist won't use them, find another florist. I'm having hydrangeas in a bouquet and a centrepiece. My fiancé and I had appointments with two florists yesterday, and one of them told us that when she does a bouquet with hydrangeas, she always puts a little water pack at the base of the stems to keep them hydrated and wraps the stems with ribbons so you don't see the water pack. I don't know if that's what the other florist does, or if she just uses a spray or what, but there are ways to keep hydrangeas from wilting.
