December 2012 Weddings

Introduction

Hi everyone!

My fiancee and I got engaged in early July, and I have been planning and participating on other boards, but we just picked our date!! 12/1/12!!  I am so excited, and very interested to see what other December brides are doing.  I didn't do much yet for a theme, because I wasn't sure if it would be winter or fall.  We are getting married in Western PA.

Re: Introduction

  • Congrats! :)

As for a theme, I'm not having one. :) I however did pick wedding colors that have nothing to do with Christmas colors. I chose Gray, Yellow, & White.

Once of the best things about picking those colors is that everything is going on sale now since they are traditionally "summer" colors. I have found some great deals at craft stores and also for gifts to my BM's.

As for planning... we are done. We have all our vendors booked. If you haven't gotten a dress yet I would suggest that be your 1st action item. We don't have a lot of time left. Same with BM dresses. I decided not to even have traditional BM dresses because I didn't want my girls to have to spend money on it. So they are all wearing a nice black dress of their choice. But if you do want to go to the traditional BM route they will likely have to pay for a rushed order.

If you don't have a venue that would be the next in line.

Once thing I have ran into is that having my wedding in December (near the beginning) has added the competition of corporate holiday parties. Lots of things are going to book up soon.

    Good luck and congrats again!
  • Congrats!! Our theme is a mix of things. We definitely incorporated little "happily ever after" themes and such but its very wintery (because in Florida, we have little to no winter). Lots of branches, acrylic ice and candlelight. And I wanted winter colors that didn't scream CHRISTMAS lol, so we're doing Plum, white and sage. Happy Planning!!!!

  • Thanks!!!  I am thinking about doing some paler colors, like silver, pale blue, and pale rose, but still playing around with it.  I think we are going to go for a "winter" theme, rather than "Christmas".  And yes, I did already get my dress, luckily!  And we are going bridesmaid dress shopping next week.  The few dresses we are considering take up to 10 weeks to come in, so I think we'll be okay.  And we already checked with the priest and booked the church and church hall for the day!!!

<div>You are so lucky!! Happy for you. It's do-able... I am done planning and could have had my wedding this month, but my venue was so booked : ) </div><div>
</div><div>Have you got your invites picked out?</div>
  • congrats!!!!! im in northeast ohio.about 1/2 hr from hermitage. would be nice to chat with someone around here. if you are interested maybe we can give each other a heads up on local sales.
  • abussen-We are doing a lot of DIY things for the wedding.  This is what I had in mind for invites: a 5x8 sheet of very pale blue cardstock, with the wording centered in dark blue script (we will just get this printed at a copy shop), with dark blue snowflakes stamped in 2 opposite corners, then a sheet a vellum paper overtop, attached to the cardstock with a ribbon that goes through 2 holes punched at the top and tied in a bow-probably light blue ribbon, or the light rose if I go that direction.  I need to do a sample first to make sure it comes out like I'm picturing in my head, though.

We are also doing DIY favors, centerpieces, card box.  I'm not sure if anything else yet.  I am so lucky to have bridesmaids and MOH willing to help me!!! My FI would have helped me if I needed him, but I think these things are much more fun to do with other girls.  My FI is the oldest of 8 and has 5 younger sisters who are my BM's, and they are incredibly excited to help with wedding stuff, especially since this is the first wedding most of them have gotten to be involved with.  Also, my MOH is my cousin who is AWESOME.  Years ago, me and her made this awesome Excel spreadsheet (we are both accountants, cliche right?) that has tabs for guest list/rsvp tracker, bridal party contact and info, budget tracker, to-do list, items checklist, etc. and her and I are very excited to finally be able to use it!!!

kyreneg12-I will be happy to do that if anything comes up!  We are not quite local, I am actually east of Pittsburgh, about 1/2 hour from Indiana, PA (my hometown is very small, actually considered a "village") if you know where that is, but I will let you know if there are any good sales, just in case they extend out that way!!

</div><div>That is really funny because I am an accountant as well! ha... I have something very similar that I have been using. Too funny! </div><div>
</div><div>Your invites sound great!! So exciting. I went the easy and cheap route on those and used VistaPrint. We found out about 2 months into planning that we will be moving to NYC from Chicago a month before the wedding. It will be so crazy that I figured I wouldn't have had time with packing and finding a place / new job... oh my! </div><div>
</div><div>That's awesome you have so much help. So nice. I have one really crafty friend that has helped me with a few DIY projects. </div><div>

</div><div>I decided that I had my real wedding and my play wedding boards! haha.... I mainly did it to show our families the ideas that we really are doing to do and also the coordinators of the wedding so that they could get a good idea of the amount of set-up involved. Hopefully no one books my venue for the Friday before and then I should be able to go and do most of it myself. We shall see :) Have a great weekend. </div>

</div><div>cool thanks! Actually pittsburgh is only about 1 1/2 hr away from me. so your only bout 2 hrs away. I travel a lot so that's nothing 2 me lol. Though you are right not sure a lot of sales will cover that distance. but its worth a try right?<img src="http://cdn.cl9.vanillaforums.com/downloaded/ver1.0/content/scripts/tinymce/plugins/emotions/images/smiley-laughing.gif" border="0" alt="Laughing" title="Laughing" /> </div><div>I am also doing a lot of DIY projects. stationary, aisle decorations, center pieces, jewelry, card box, flower girl baskets, tiara, flowers, ect. seems like we are working on some of the same projects with the same theme just different colors. if you want we can give each other DIY tips as needed too.</div><div>
