Dubai and Maldives booked

We are so excited to finally booked our HM.  We are going to Dubai for a few days then the Maldives for a week.  We are so excited.

Anyone been to either places before?

  • Haven't been...yet! I just wanted to say congrats! We're heading to the Maldives next year for our 1st anniversary (most likely anyway- it's 1st on the list). Since we decided on a DW and wanted our marriage to be legal, we had to skip the Maldives this time around :) I had two places on my bucket list- Seychelles and Maldives and went to the Seychelles last year!

I love Dubai!! We went for our anniversary in October and we really loved it.  There's not much to do culturally, but if you are really into shopping (and I'm talking high end shopping) then you will love it.  We did a desert safari, booked through our hotel (Al Manzil, btw-- amazing). That was really fantastic. I do also recommend going out to the souks, just to do a walk through. The gold souk was incredible. SO.much.BLING. Just be sure to dress a bit more demurely there. That was the one place in Dubai where I felt I was being looked at, even though I was wearing a cotton dress that hit my knees and covered my shoulders.

We definitely plan to go back. :)
  • What did you think of the Seychelles?  Was it safe?  Any recommendations?

  • It was 110% safe. We never felt that we were ever in a odd situation, though we didn't spend very much time on the main island or on a boat. We spent 1 night on Mahe when we first arrived at Le Meridien Barbarons and 1 night at Le Meridien Fisherman's Cove prior to returning to the US (I'm SPG platinum and we had to stay these nights due to transit times). We spent the remainder of our time on Denis Private Island. It is unlike the other islands in the Seychelles because it's a coral island, so you don't see those gorgeous granite boulders. That was the only part we wish we had experienced. Otherwise, Denis was amazing! We'd definitely go back. If (okay, when!) we do, we'll probably stay part of the time on Praslin and the other part on Denis. I'd love to stay on Fregate or North, but not sure I can justify the additional cost given that our experience on Denis was superb. We actually stayed in Mauritius for the first part of our trip and enjoyed it, but the Seychelles is just miles above Mauritius when it comes to natural beauty and an overall experience.

Thanks, will def look into that, we're not sure what to do yet but the day trip sounds good.  I'm thinking that the weather might be too hot for the beach.

  • Sounds amazing!  Thanks so much!  Did you use a travel agent?  We don't know where to stay or anything really about the Seychelles...we were thinking of doing an African Safari too...don't know if that is too much to cram into a 14 day trip - we're coming from NYC.
  • I did not use an agent, but would recommend doing so. I had so many points and miles to burn that I felt it would have been a waste of someone's time to help me. I think 14 days should be plenty. A lot will depend on your budget. We were gone 2.5 weeks, but again, we had a lot of our costs covered. We still ended up spending over $10K when all was said and done, but had I paid outright, it would have been more like $40K-$50k. Yikes!
