NWR.. AFLAC??

This is kind of random, but I need some information and hopefully some of you have some experience with it.
I was thinking of signing up for AFLAC, it is a benefit offered by my company so it wouldn't cost me too much money. I was debating because I would like to get pregnant soon after we get married, but I know that due to other issues there is a good chance I could get put on bedrest, and I don't want FMLA to run out and have nothing.
Anyway, does anyone have this, has anyone had to use it or is it not worth the money? I'm going to talk to the guy on Friday but I was hoping someone would know a little more about it.  TIA.

Re: NWR.. AFLAC??

  • I just signed up for it with my company.  I think I'm paying $10 a month or something like that.

My mother has had it for a long time.  She has used it a few times because FMLA wouldn't cover her for the time she needed to be out.  She swore by it and she always says they have the best customer service.

I'm sorry I cant be much help right now, since I haven't gone down to RI for the meeting yet.

  •  AFLAC!
I would get new insurance ASAP if you're planning to start a family. Some insurance companies require you to be a client for a year before they cover maternity.

  • Thanks Dirtywater- I just wanted to make sure someone had a good experience with them.

Adktd- I definetly have insurance (I don't know how people live without it) and its actually pretty good when it comes to maternity benefits, I just want something to supplement it. But, it does need to be active for 10 mos before they will pay for any pregnancy related disability, thats why I'm looking into it now.
  • I have it for dental and I had for extra disability and accident insurance but never used it! I canceled it, I have no complaints I just didn't the point anymore especially after my insurance changed and I had MUCH better coverage-for me I needed it for accidents etc when I had crappy insurance with a high deductible it was more for help with medical bills, they did pay for x-rays and an ER bill once when I had the accident poilcy.

A past co-worker had some and passed away from a snow mobile accident and I know his wife was very happy with them and she definitely benefitted from him carrying.

I don't know if any of that helps but overall I like the company

  • One of my friends has them, along with insurance from her husband's work, and she had 2 c-sections within 14 months of eachother and it was all paid.
