help with shoes

i'm having trouble finding some gold shoes that wont sink through the grass at our outdoor wedding. i'm also accident prone, so anything over 3" is a no-no. what are the opinions on this heel? should i find a thicker heel? Please help, the shoes are my last accessory needed to complete my wedding day look.

Re: help with shoes

  • I got this Cole Haan shoe in vintage silver but it actually looks gold.  It has a thicker heel so it didn't sink into the grass and it has a lot of cushioning.  I think the heel was about 2 1/2 inches.

  • I bought my heels with a relatively thin heel, but now I plan on using these heel stoppers so I won't sink in!

  • We're being married outside and I'm going with a wedge shoe.  No one is going to see them, and I have to walk across a bridge that has wooden slats.  I'm accident prone too and can just picture my heel getting stuck in the wood.  Hope this helps !
  • I'm wearing a wedge too.  I NEVER wear wedge sandals, but I don't want to sink.
  • For what it's worth, I had heel stoppers and I totally sunk.  I lost one stopper in the grass on the walk down the isle and had to balance on the ball of my foot for the whole ceremony...needless to say the heels immediately came off when the ceremony was over.  I'd go with a wedge if I was going to do it again.

  • If your dress covers your shoes, why don't you wear flats for the ceremony then change after? I've decided to do this for my ceremony because I'm also accident prone, so adding a huge dress and walking in heels on soft ground will be challenging lol.

  • I would suggest wearing flats.  My ceremony is in a garden and I bought flats for 3 reasons...1) I won't sink in the soft ground, 2) I didn't want to be super tall next to my fiance because I like the height I am next to him, 3) I wanted shoes that would be comfortable to wear for both ceremony and reception.  I thought about just getting a pair of heels for ceremony and a pair of flats to dance in but then the hem on my dress would be way dragging.  Why pay all that money for alterations if its just going to hit the ground anyway?  So flats were the answer for me.  I found mine at a shoe outlet store for way less money than at a bridal store.  I saved so much money I bought another pair of shoes just for the fun of it :)
  • My ceremony is outside I picked my something old as a pair of white wedged sandals. Can't help you with the heel my heel is 4". I know it's over used but David's Bridal has some really nice shoes. If you want one with a smaller heel I would suggest Marly. It has great reviews and can be dyed any color.

  • If you need a heel, I would suggest cork wedges.  They are light, tend to be comfortable, and don't sink into the grass.  Ideally, I would do flats though.

I agree with subdola that heel stoppers are terrible.

If you need to, you can always paint the cork.
  • personly i think you should go with a wedge or a flat. Don't take the risk of tripping or getting stuck. Also, if you are using an isle runner on the grass you dont want your heel to pop threw the runner... as many of the store bought runners tend to be thin plastic.
  • I would recommend wearing flats.  We are getting married in the country and I'll have to walk through grass.  I am wearing flats for 3 reasons: 1) I wanted comfort!  Who wants their feet to hurt on their wedding day; 2) there is only 1/2 inch difference between my FI and me and I don't want him to feel uncomfortable; 3) I don't want to be tripping over my dress at the reception!  I have to agree with a previous post... why spend the money to get alterations if you still have to fight with you dress at the reception?

So my suggestion, get flats, plus, no one will see what type of shoe you are wearing!  Below is a picture of my shoes.  I decided to have a bit of fun and get them with a touch of blue!  Got my something blue covered!  Good Luck!

we are getting married outside, so we decided that everyone in the bridal party (including my fiance and his groomsmenn) will wear flipflops. We live in San Diego though so this may be more acceptable. We are actually doing an entire flipflop theme with a cake topper and all! I bought my flip flops at www.zappos.com. They are very elegant from Carlos Santana flats with a little bit of bling to go with them!

I fell in love with a pair of 3" stilettos and I plan to walk very carefully :P
That being said, I am quite good on heels even on soft ground, our ceremony will be approximately 20 minutes start to finish, and I'm switching to purple converse for the reception. My dress is also a tulle ballroom skirt with no train, that is supposed to float an inch or two above the ground, so I'll have it just short enough that I won't be tripping over it at the reception and it should 'float' nicely for the ceremony. As an added bonus, the husband-elect is 6'3, I could wear stripper heels if I wanted too ;)

The heel isn't the only thing to consider on a shoe, if you're worried about it be sure you have a shoe that will hold on to your foot for dear life, no slingbacks or mules with just sweat and prayers to hold them still. The ones you have picked are really pretty, and they seem to be quite solid, strap-wise, but only you can tell when wearing them if you would be confident enough to walk down the aisle without mishaps

  • Target has a ton of gold sandals in stock right now.  You could also look at overstock.com
  • I don't know if you'll take my suggestion seriously or not.  I'm not wearing any shoes.  I'm walking down the aisle barefoot.  But I'm also doing a very casual, kind of earthy wedding, plus I hate shoes...Lol.  Do your toes up really pretty and call it a day.  Who needs shoes?

    Good luck with your search.
  • K9 by Rocket Dog Women's Farah - Red  These are the shoes I bought. I found them at sears. I really wanted some sexy shoes but with my large feet and out door wedding it was really hard to find soemthing that I like.  I really like the way they look on my feet and the wedge isn't really hard so they are super comfortable and I think I will be able to wear them all night. Good luck looking for your shoes!

  • juliennec -- I'm with you, me and my girls will be going barefoot ... granted we are doing a our ceremony on the beach, so it fits either way (not to mention I'm really accident prone myself). I think my FI and his men will be wearing flip-flops, and then I'll probably by some nice flipflops for me and the girls to wear to the reception.

That being said, if no shoes is a no-go, then I would definitely go with flats or wedges because it would be so much easier than they heels in the grass!
