Tacky or Not? -RSVPs

Just wanted to gather some thoughts regarding RSVP's for my wedding. FI and I agreed early on that we would not do an A and a B list however it turns out much of his family is unable to make our wedding when we counted many of these people as sure things. As a result there is a strong possibility we are not going to make our 150 miniumum with the venue.

We know we can't send out more invites because our deadline is 10/17 and it would look bad to send out invites a month after they already went out with just 2 weeks to RSVP.

However we did invite all of our single friends not in relationships without guests since they all knew tons of people there. Would it look bad if I contacted them letting them know if they wanted to bring a guest now they could or would that be in poor taste. I just would hate to have food go to waste should we not make the minimum.

We were a few short at the end as well. We called our single guests and told them they could bring a date. I would not send out more invites.

I think it's acceptable to tell single friends they can bring a guest. And if you're still under, talk to your venue and see if they will allow you upgrades to the reception. Maybe more food stations, apps, desserts, etc.

I think it's fine to contact single friends and see if they want to include a guest.

I also don't see a problem with sending out more invitations and leaving out the rsvp card. The rsvp card is not necessary - it is common practice and semi-expected, but it is not necessary. If there was a B list, you could still invite them if you wanted and just don't put in the original printed rsvp card and just include a small blank card, or not.

Thanks everyone for the feedback. I think I'm going to send a note out to my single friends letting them know they can bring guests if they want. I also really like the idea about working with the venue to see if we can get some extras if we don't hit the min.

If they won't upgrade, ask if you can take the extra dinners home. We went home with 4 dinners which we proceeded to eat the few nights after the wedding. It was delicious - especially since our house had no food in preparation for going away on our honeymoon.
