I start a new job next Monday. This is my last week off. I'm happy to have a job, but nervous to start a new one. That 1st day is always scary.

Plus, it is not my dream job, because it is not a teaching job, but on Long Island it is so hard. I went on a job interview last week, a preliminary one, for a teaching job, and they interviewed 20 other people that day, at least. I had to take a test though, so I'm hoping I did better than other people on it so it will help me stand out. This new job will make it hard to go on teaching interviews, and I have to cancel my Saratoga trip.

But, it pays the same as a teacher, and it has full benefits, right now I have no health insurance. So there's good and bad. The people I will work with seem really nice though, they are all young-ish girls, and I felt like they were people I could relate to, so I hope I like it. Wish me luck!

I finally got my e-pictures done this weekend!!! Our original appointment was about a month ago, and we had to reschedule because both of our rain dates got rained out. But we finally got them done, and should have the pictures in a week or so!!!

And I'm only working three days this week (today, tomorrow and Thursday) so it should be super easy.

I found out last week that I will be leading an audit at work for the first time. I've only been in my current position for a little over a year, and I had no background in auditing (I do regulatory compliance auditing for a large bank, for those who are wondering), so I'm pretty excited that I'm getting the opportunity to lead an audit so soon.

My AW is I'm on vacation after a very stressful couple weeks with work. My FI and I are in Iowa visiting my family.

I "saved the date" with our bakery. I thought I would be using the one near my house, but I found another bakery close to my venue. They're about the same price, but the designs and flavor combinations are much more interesting. I'm picking up some cupcakes on 8/3 and taking them to Toronto so FI and I can have a cake tasting.

While I'm in Toronto, we're having dinner with FI's aunt. His mother passed away in 1992. I'm hoping his aunt will kind of help with ideas on how to incorporate their Jewish traditions without me offending anyone or making a fool of myself. FI has no suggestions to offer, but makes fun of me whenever I tell him my ideas. Long story.

I finished our invitations, and FI didn't like them. He likes this homely one I did a while back. I told him we'd send that one to his family and the one I like to my family. Ha!

It's a holiday day here today (To make up for Canada Day being on Sunday) so no work for me this week! Pretty happy for that :)

sssdee: Not as often as I would like. Gas is a huge expense, and I always seem to get searched on my way back into the US. We're getting to the point where they're going to start processing the visa application, so he might not be able to come here again until next April.

I think you said you were from Cambridge, right? FI and I actually met there at a Scrabble tournament in 2005.

rmp: good luck with your new job! I'm a teacher too, and I can totally understand how difficult it is to find a job. I'm a fine arts teacher, so that made it twice as hard for me.

AW: FI is still in PA with his grandfather. It's very hard on him and I miss him very much as well. But, we both know he's in the right place, so I try not to complain to him too much.

I know this doesn't count as AW, but it's on my mind. I read on the news that a local high school teacher who was 53 got caught with a 15 year old girl in his van last night. I cannot even begin to tell you how sick this makes me as a human being, but also as a teacher. WTF is wrong with people?!!?

We took engagement pictures last night! Even just looking at the little screen on the camera, I can tell they will be awesome! FI and I are huge football fans so we were going to take pictures in front of the stadium.. well they were doing construction and a gate was open! FI asked one of the workers if we could take a couple quick pictures so we got to go on the field!

Nikisha: that is very depressing news! A local county sheriff got caught with child pornography and taking photos of numerous young girls (a 10yr old girl he adopted and her sisters ages 6yr-12ish, and his best friend's 6yr old daughter). I know the kids involved very well and it is heartbreaking. I am hoping that life is going to be better for all of them moving forward from this.

My AW: I have been a little down bc I lost my job in April (on FI bday) and the search has been rough! I have been trying to keep myself busy... without spending money. Quite a challenge!

Things I've been doing: using my zoo pass, reading Water for Elephants, a jigsaw puzzle, going to the library with a friend and our sons, window shopping, posting on TK, and my fav..... this week I played about 12 games of basketball!

rmp, good luck! I am also a teacher. I managed to find a job miraculously last year but the district was horrible. I cried almost everyday. So when they cut me down to a .2 this year I jumped ship and haven't found another school job yet. I'm working in community education now, but much prefer being in a classroom. What's the new job you're starting?

AW- we started constructing our deck this weekend. FI managed to smash three of my fingers under a 200lbs 4x6x12 post, but other then bruised they're alright. We spent Saturday digging the post holes so the codes inspector could sign off on them this morning. The skin on my palms is all ripped up and I'm super sore, but we go all 16 dug, so that was good. FI's parents will be back on Wednesday to walk us through putting up the posts then Friday we'll probably start on framing out the beams and joists. It's tough, but I can't wait to sit on it when it's done, drink something very strong and revel in the fact that we'll have built the whole thing by ourselves. Also, I only work today, tomorrow and Thursday, so I'm very excited for that.

cnf, the new job I took is with eSchool Data, you may have heard of them. It's the program that schools use, at least all the schools on LI use, so the teachers can take attendance, post grades for individual assignments, all the progress reports and report cards go on there, and then there is a parent portal attached so parents can see if/when kids are absent, what they are missing, their current grades, etc. I will be doing customer service, so I'll be on the programming/trouble shooting end, and I'll also be doing training, which is what I like most about the job. I'm hoping to have lots of chances to go to schools and train administrators and teachers, and I'm hoping that will lead to networking and finding jobs.

I just got 2 calls today from schools in NYC, one in the Bronx and one in a horrible, terrible area of Brooklyn. I don't think I'm going to consider the one in Brooklyn, because it's one of those charter schools where the graduation rates suck, the neighborhood is bad, and it's just not worth it for me to drive all the way there everyday for only $35-40,000. I will consider the job in the Bronx, that's at a public school, but I am unfamiliar with the area. It is also far from me, but there might be a subway there.

Waiting to hear back from the job on LI, but not feeling positive. cnf, are you still applying for teaching jobs?

Wow there are lots of unemployed teachers on here. I left my teaching job in FL after two and a half months. I was crying everyday since my family and FI were 1100 mi away. Now I'm back home working at a daycare, selling MK, and thinking about going back to subbing. FI graduates in December, so we will be moving in together

WR-- my sorority kid sent me the completed save the dates and I got then printed now I just have to get addresses from fmil.

Yeah, I'm still looking for teaching jobs. I do like my community ed job, but not as much as teaching. I hate staying til 5pm, I just can't seem to get used to it. Plus most of my time is spent alone in a satellite office where I work complete alone. Plus I don't make as much money. But I'm a health teacher which is a very small field. Most districts only have one or two health teachers. And we live in a rural-ish area with only super small districts, so my odds of finding a health ed job are pretty limited, which is very frustrating. And I terribly miss having my summers off. Fi has super limited summer hours at his job with the option to take the summer off and I'm very jealous. Especially now that we own a house and I could enjoy being out in my own yard. Last year when I had my first teacher summer break we lived in a small second story apartment with only a tiny balcony with asphalt tiles for the floor to go outside on.

I have two AW's one from today and one from last week.

Last week found out my FI will for sure be coming back from Afghanistan sooner then originally expected and even that can't come soon enough! Its still frustrating because he knows a range of dates that he could be flying home one but can't even tell me that so have to play a cryptic guessing game and hope I guess right to try and plan to go down to San Diego for his homecoming.

And then today I did the fit test for insanity after one month of dieting and doing insanity(had to take two weeks off of working out for a sprained ankle though). That also meant weighing, measuring and taking a progress picture and I am soo happy with the results! I can noticably see a difference in the picture from a month ago to this one and it feels soo good that my hardwork is paying off!
